Re-read Elaine's book and have your parents read the book so they can

understand what is happening with their beloved grandson.

My son is 4.5yr old asd, and has been scd for only three days. I

have explained the diet and the science behind it to my parents, but

they seem unimpressed. Their point of view is that if we can cut out

90% of the bad sugar in his diet, that must be great compared to his

old regular diet which was high in sugar.(fast food, etc). I have

read BTVC, but it seems like they do have a point. Any suggestions.

The way I see it, we are dealing with the intestines trying to digest

molecules of food. If your son is getting 90% of the bad sugar out

of his diet as compared to his old diet, that is indeed nice. But

real healing can only happen when there are NO undigested molecules

of food which feed the unwanted bacterial fauna and yeast. It is

this that leads to such a host of problems. 90% is not 100% and it

is not just sugar - complex carbohydrates are also undigestable for

many of our kids. There is a nice, simple explanation on

pecanbread.com, complete with simple pictures for simpletons like

myself, just find the link to the science behind the diet.

I imagine it is like offering a single cracker to someone with celiac

disease. It might not hurt as much as a whole pasta dinner, but it

still damages the body. Only our kiddos can't always tell us when it

hurts. Sometimes, they don't even know it hurts until the hurt goes

away and you see the " fog " lifting from their little minds that you

know what the alternative can be for them. There are lunchboxes and

t-shirts and other things that have printed " I only eat food from

home " as a gentle reminder for grandparents, teachers, babysitters

and new parents. You can find them also on the pecanbread.com site.

My suggestion is to try the diet with 100% compliance and wait and

see what you find. It sure can't hurt!

I see their point, cause my parents were the same way, but 100% is

definitely best, otherwise you will continue to crave the carbs and

sugary stuff. You will have just enough in there to keep feeding

that craving bacteria, putting you in a cycle of withdrawal over and

over. You won't feel well during it all either. I would just gently

and lovingly say that this is what you have decided for your child,

and stick to it come ---- or highwater, so to speak. This is what I

have had to do. It's not easy at first, but what a difference it

makes. All the pain is worth seeing your child feeling good and

happy.
