Guest guest
, You sound pretty overwhelmed. You probably already know this.... but your current system just isn't going to work if the illegal foods are still going to be in the house. It'll make you crazy and you'll put all that hard work into cooking and planning ..... but will not really make headway. Would your husband possibly agree to keep his favorites in a locked cabinet or something? It must be hard having him not really supportive of what you're trying to do. What do you think it would take to get him a little more on board? Would it help him to read more stories about other kids and how they've improved? If so, we can make sure you get that information. I'm sure you'll hear from some others that have dealt with these same kinds of challenges..... hopefully there will be some great suggestions. In terms of the diet itself right now, you need to use the constipation protocol of prune/orange juice. I'll forward it to the list next. Also, if I were you, I would not try to stay on intro any longer. It won't help if illegals keep getting into the mix. Just concentrate on sticking with legal foods...... maybe follow the " stages " chart on www.pecanbread.com as a loose guideline of first foods. Then, maybe later you can go back and do a couple of days of intro once you've figured out a workable system. You need some ideas for outsmarting your little guy. Come on, listmates! Let's hear how you all manage it! Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 14 months Too many infractions!!!!!!!!!! To anyone out there who can offer some encouragement or counsel I greatly need it! We are going on our third week SCD, my two kids and I. Two and a half yr old/typical and four yr old/ASD. My husband is not all that supportive and won't allow the breads to leave the house and gives my daughter popcorn. My son just climbed into the freezer today and pulled out two frozen flatbreads and started chowing down. It seems like every couple of days there is a new infraction. I am in the kitchen all day and night preparing food and it doesn't seem to be making any difference. I feel like I'm possibly doing more harm than good because with each new infraction the really bad microbes get a good dose of what they love. My son and I are struggling with constipation and for the life of me I can't understand what the protocol is for Autistic kids on SCD. I checked out the knowledge base but it says to eat muffins and I thought it was too early to be giving him nut flours. I am so frustrated. We have been eating intro diet foods for the past two weeks because I feel I have to keep starting over again to get a true SCD intro. What should I do? These are my sons infractions to date, home made yoghurt in the second week and cheesecake filling (recipee from the book) he helped himself to the fridge, uncooked apples, french fries, sausage with wheat filler, muffins with wheat and everything under the sun illegal, cheddar cheese. I'm not looking for a pep talk on the improtance of staying strictly SCD. I understand the importance. I am trying very hard, I even pulled an all nighter preparing food to take with us for a three day therapy camp so that we would have the SCD in the first week. Has anyone else had a rocky start? Guest guest
, What it sounds like you need is someone to give your husband a pep talk. Are there any DADS on this list who would be willing to send an e-mail to 's husband about the positive benefits SCD has had for their child(ren)??? You are right that it isn't going to work as long as he continues to give them illegal foods. Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 18 months
Guest guest
, My family is doing SCD. My husband's reflux is so much better. I feel so much better that I have no desire to leave the diet. My son also loves SCD. My teenaged daughter is another story. It used to be impossible to have her on the diet. As soon as she was out of the house she found illegals. The only thing that helps is telling her that SCD prevents obesity. She has perfect weight when she is on the diet and does not want to gain. When she is 100% legal, she makes much more progress than her brother. She has all the advantages:she is younger and female. However, her brother improved so much more than she did because he is 100% compliant. My daughter did show some improvement with " SCD+illegals " diet but we cannot promise that for everyone. My son used to be more seriously affected than his sister but he now is better in many areas... I am very hopeful about his future...he is able to support himself and works in the private sector as a programmer. My daughter is now more compliant and I am delighted with the changes in her. I have used toolboxes from Walmart and hardware stores to hide illegals if we have guests. The toolboxes have a place to put a small lock. Mimi > , > You sound pretty overwhelmed. Guest guest
, Hopefully by now you can see a little light at the end of the tunnel. There really is a light, I know its hard to see now. My first thought when I read your post was to suggest you simply not replace illegals as they get eaten up. Meanwhile, those illegal foods which are not eaten regularly could just " happen " to end up in a big storage box or fridge in the garage. This helped my family. For example, when they asked for cheerios for a snack they could look up and down the cupboards but find none. They have learned to love peanut butter and banana or apple for snacks. As far as your husband's compliance, that's a really tough situation. Only you know what will work best for him. The comprimise I made with my husband was that the house will have mostly SCD legal foods and he gets to eat what he wants after the kids go to bed. For the most part, if I fill his belly he is happy. We eat a lot of BBQ foods so the meat really fills him up and he is satisfied for the evening. In time, as your children improve, you improve, everyone gets used to the new foods and moods are lighter, chances are he just might accept it more easily. If he's anything like my husband, he just won't think much past the full belly! Helen, mom to (9 ASD, SCD 4/04)
