Guest guest Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 <<My questions...isn't around 4.0 cm the " norm " for cervical length?>> Actually it's more like 4.5 to 5 cm for the nulliparous woman, but that's just average. A normal, competent cervix has a wide range. <<And, is 2.5 cm when problems are anticipated? I also asked him about 2.5 being " cerclage material " and he said not necessarily. The tech told me it's relative to the first measurement. >> Your doc and tech gave you good answers. <<I think all the cramping and sharp shooting pains in my vagina this last week is what has me even more paranoid! Please forgive me for being so crazy >> I understand thoroughly! Everybody gets the cramping and shooting pains--and pressure. Some degree of all of these sensations are normal. The feeling of pressure that started for me around 16 weeks or so drove me crazy. If your fear overwhelms you, call your OB and work out a plan to be monitored. My own OB had mercy on me many a time, and it worked better than any pill to see the long cervix and healthy fetus. Good luck. -- Beth SU, resected x 2 Quote
