Guest guest
So often there are problems in our family and I never think about them being mito in nature until I see something about it on this list or read it somewhere and go WHAT? WOW! I am having to take my 12 yr old grandson we're raising in to the psychiatrist again for his extreme aggression towards his little brother. (My daughter, husband-Ty's stepdad, and brothers ages 11 and 8, and sister age 6 moved next door to us several months ago.) Tylynn has always had this aggression issue with Kody and it has always scared us because he is downright violent and so much larger than Kody. Kody is also too passive. Ty was put on Amantadine several yrs ago and it helped a lot. He also takes thyroid medicine. I kept attributing his anger to the real dad pitting the boys against each other as little ones. He is not EVER in the picture now and I just assumed it was all unconscious with the boys. BUT my father actually lost his temper and murdered someone when I was 4 and there is a history of male aggression and violence in my family so DA! Why am I not thinking this is probably a medical issue and not a psychiatric one. (Don't get me wrong. I KNOW the mind is a physical organ of the body and am the first to scream to people not to separate "mental" from physical, but I think you'll know what I mean here.) What types of aggression are any of you talking about noticing in your children if anyone would share with me? Both these boys have auditory processing deficits (as do some other family members, myself included) so we get easily frustrated, take things wrong, miss things, get confused, etc. We've also been told we have Tourette's type rages and the brain actually gets so much frustration built up that it eventually creates a "brain storm" of nonsensical uncontrolled rage if we don't start filtering our frustrations and ill feelings as soon as we notice them building up. The Desoxyn helped Kody and I think the Neurontin helped me the most with this problem. The Amantadine WAS working for Ty this way-maybe he needs a time off of it to make it work again. We're wondering about putting Ty on an anti-depressant. Maybe he needs an anti-seizure med. The Neurontin I take is an anti-seizure med. but also for pain. I started it for abdominal adhesions that developed after my hysterectomy and told the Dr. it helped my cognitive thinking SO much.He says perhaps I was having mild seizures like a lot of people with ADHD have been found to have. This psychiatrist seems so far to be very gifted in his knowledge and intuition of meds so hope he can come up with something helpful. Our family reacts so odd to drugs, foods, and chemicals that it is hard for anyone to treat us. Scoggins
