Guest guest
Mimi Take a day's supply of any meds you take to your surgeon. He will tell you which ones you need to split, which ones you need to crush, etc due to the size of the stoma they will have to pass through. Not only that, any time-released meds you take will have to be changed; they leave your system before they can be released. I had to change Glucotrol XL to glipizide ER and Zyban to Wellbutrin. My B-12, Hemacyte (iron) and biotin are small enough to swallow. My surgeon instructs to take 4 Pepcid Complete (chewable) for calcium (2 hrs apart from iron - they block each other) and a chewable or liquid multivitimin (I do Centrium chewable). Chewables are more readily absorbed from the time you begin to chew them. The portion of the stomach that absorbs nutrients is severed. As far as splitting or crushing a multivitamin, ask your surgeon. I just went with the instructions given to me. ~~Pat~~ Orlando, FL 252/203/160 BMI 37/ 52 Years Young LAP-RNY 12/10/03 Wayne English, MD Ft Lauderdale, FL > I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN SWALLOW VIT.
