Hi Jenessa

Glad you found the site useful for the tampon issue! I have two smear tests

done; one on each cervix. My right cervix is very hard to find and it is quite

uncomfortable to have the doctor prodding away but it is necessary. I would

find out first that you actually do have a second cervix though as otherwise you

could be suffering unnecessarily!

Good luck

Pap Smears on Second Cervix (UD)

Hey ladies!! Since you were all SUCH a help to me on the tampon

question (which, btw, I'm eager to try out when I get AF next week--

LOL), I have another question for you all.

At my last gyn appointment, the nurse was reviewing my records and

noted that my RE had made the UD dx and that I had a second cervix.

However, no one has yet been able to see the second cervix (actually,

I think it's only assumed that I have another one, since I have a

very small septum). My RE said we could explore the septum and " open

it up " if I wanted, but that he didn't think fertility-wise that it

would be that important. However, the nurse doing my annual exam

brought up the question of whether or not we should try to explore

further so that we could do a pap smear on the second cervix. I do

have a family history of cancer, so I'm worried about not testing the

second cervix (if there indeed is one), but I don't want to go

through having my septum reviewed and explored if it's not necessary.

Do all you double-cervixed women out there have pap smears done on

both? Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks!

Jenessa

Thanks for all the responses, ladies!! You've made me realize that I

can't keep ignoring this and should really investigate further. The

RE that I was seeing has come highly recommended, and he really knew

his stuff, but he didn't really seem interested in me until I was

TTC. At the time, I told him that wouldn't be for another year or

two, so he was basically like, come back and see me if you have

trouble conceiving. He didn't mention anything at all about a second

pap smear.

My question now is whether I should go back to him for more tests and

to " open up " my other cervix. No one has ever seen a second cervix

(unless it could be seen on an MRI? I'm not sure about that.), and

the RE told me that I would have to be sedated to actually be able to

open up the septum and look, since the septum is so small. He made it

seem like as long as I could get pregnant through my " main "

cervix/uterus and that there was no discomfort with sex, that I

should leave it all alone. Now I realize maybe that's not enough.

Do any of you know how a doctor would go about finding the second

cervix? Would he only be able to do it by actually going in with a

knife, or would he be able to see it on an U/S or MRI (I've had both

done, but don't remember if the cervices are visible on them)?

Also, is anyone in the Albany, NY area? I'm currently going to Dr.

Horvath in Albany, but I'm wondering if anyone on here is in my area

and could suggest another doctor...?

Thanks again to everyone for their answers and support!!
