Do you know if your sister's doctors are discussing her problems between themselves. People sometimes don't remember to tell one doctor what is going on with another one. That leaves so much space for contradicting medications and so on. I also know some doctor's are not so willing to pick up the phone and speak with another doctor about their patients. They don't have the time. Also, now with the new personal information laws it may actually be difficult for them to do it unless you sign a release stating it is ok for them to discuss your case with a list of doctors. Still, it makes such a difference. My nephrologists never hesitated to pick up the phone. Same with my obstetrician throughout three high risk pregnancies and also my old rheumatologist. Their communication is so important for our well being. When I was hospitalized with pancreatitis over a year ago, that was before my whole flare up with the kidneys. However, I had a nephrologists consult. It was an emergency situation, I knew all the medications I was on but couldn't remember my recent test results. This consult was asking me questions about my kidneys that could have easily been answered by my nephrologists, but he just wouldn't take the time to call me and bluntly told me, "Oh, I'm not going to be calling anybody, I'm just a consult". What stinks is the fact that my creatinine was showing up high, much higher than ever before and he still didn't feel a need to discuss it.

I hope something is done about your sister's medication. It's important for her well being as well as those close to her.
