Guest guest Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 To elaborate on what said, probably the next step is an ERCP, an endoscopy to look at the bile ducts. It may be possible to dilate a stricture or remove gallstones that are causing these symptoms, and as found, restore him to better health and functioning. The MRI should help the doctor to figure out what to do. Also during the ERCP they should do brushings of the bile ducts for histology. It sounds like you may also want to have him evaluated for hepatic encephalopathy (HE). There are treatments for this. It may be just fatigue though. I have no experience, but other members find Welbutrin, an antidepressant, can help with both of these effects. Good luck with everything, keep us posted. Martha (MA) in my case the PSC had caused me to develop gallstones and > once those were dealt with I was pretty much symptom free for about the > next ten years.
