Guest guest
I'm another mom with an HI kid who has a very limited number of foods she'll eat. I blame this in part on my own failure early on to set limits. Her language skills were delayed (of course) so at the age when I told my other kids no-veggies-no-cookies, I didn't make the same rules for her. I'd read so many accounts of deaf kids who were really damaged because their parents enforced penalties for rules they didn't understand and I was determined that I wasn't going to do that. Now my daughter is older and able to understand the rules, but her eating habits are established. She, too, would rather not eat than eat things that seem unfamiliar. She'll also skip field trips, parties, family events because she's afraid the food won't be something she can eat. I've heard from other HI moms that they face similar challenges. Any ideas anyone???
