Guest guest Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I don’t know if this affects anybody here but thought it would be good to share. I got the info from another support group. Often times caregivers need time off from work to provide necessary care. If you find that you are out of vacation time and sick days, you can legally still get time off, but unfortunately it wouldn’t be with pay. You file an FMLA form at work. You have to re-file annually but it allows the employee to take up to 12 additional weeks off when ever he/she, a spouse or family member has a chronic or terminal illness, childbirth, etc. Where it asks for the date, just write “as needed for transport and emergencies”. Some companies will ask for a doctor’s statement. It is a federal law so the company can not take retribution. You can get the form online or ask your Human Resources person for one. Quote
