Hydergine increases stores of the universal energy molecule, adenosine

triphosphate (ATP), stabilises the intracellular messenger molecule cyclic

adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) content of nerve cells, improves utilization

of glucose in the brain, and enhances cerebral microcirculation.

The FDA approves Hydergine for persons " over sixty who manifest signs and

symptoms of an idiopathic decline in mental capacity " (i.e. cognitive and

interpersonal skills, mood, self-care, apparent motivation-Physician's Desk

Reference 1995).

This great information but would an average family doctor know about it or would

one need to go to a neurologist or other specialist.

thanks

Hi Susy and Steve,

My general doc prescribed hydergine for me in 1992. Read Dirk Pearson

and Sandy Shaw from their Life Extension book. Durk has really

researched and tested the usage and dose of this drug. It sounds like

side-effects are nil and benefits are multiple. Very helpful for the

brain metabolism, for oxygen and cell regeneration plus energy.

Don't remember why I stopped taking it. I was taking so many things and

so sick. Think I will give it another round. Dirk writes:

In France, an indication for the use of Hydergine is 'reanimation'

meaning that it can be used to bring very recently dead persons back to

life in conjujction with other methods. The basis for this is that in

conditions where oxygen is not adequately supplied to the brain,

normally irreversible free radical brain damage begins to occur after

about five minutes. However, if Hydergine can be injected into the

carotid artery within a few minutes after death, the brain will not

begin to suffer irreversible damage for about 30 minutes. "

Pearson recommends buying only Sandoz Hydergine and using the sublingual

form after a meal. The FDA approved dose in the U>S> is 3 milligrams a

day; in Europe the typical dose is 9 milligrams a day. Dramatic effects

can be found at the European dose.

He also says you can see immediate results but it takes 1 to 2 years to

reap fullest benefits.

Thanks, Sheri

thanks for all this information I called the neuro department at the university

med center. The nurse was not familiar with it but I went ahead and made an

appointment with a neurologist so I guess

I will get my answer so enough.

Sheri are you going to give it another try??

They've changed their layout since I last bought it, so you might have to do

a little looking around. Let me know if you have any trouble finding it.

It might also be listed under " ergoloid mesylates " (or something like that.)

I wouldn't buy a lot of hydergine until you take some. The only real

contraindication to it is an allergy to hydergine. But, being one of 3

alkaloids extracted from ergot in the 40's by Sandoz, looking for a

hypertension drug, an allergy to any of them is a possibility.

The other two ergot alkaloids were LSD-25 & bromocriptine. I must have

taken acid 1500 times in my youth and it always agreed with me. I

currently take bromocriptine and it agrees with me. But, I discontinued

hydergine because I'm allergic to it in the 4.5 mg dose. My longevity MD

got me to try it again at 1 mg, which I tolerated, but I'm not going to

pay $30 for 30 1mg doses.

Bottom line is hydergine is the only nootropic so far for which I have

nothing nice to say. Deprenyl kicked my butt bigtime once when I took a

little too much, but I still take it in small doses. I've got hydergine

sitting in a drawer.

Dennis,

Sorry, I'm not a hippie. They were those young upstarts who came along

and THOUGHT they knew what we were doing and did their version. And, as

things happen, there were more of them & they were louder & noisier

about it. Even rub-your-nose-in-it as often as not. And, they had a

catchy slogan: " Sex, drugs & rock & roll! "

I consider myself a retired flower child. ;-) West Village NYC, 1963-80

something. Hippies mistook Universal love for hedonism, sacraments as

intoxicants and they diverted a quest for the Holy Grail into a drunken

orgy!

Although, I do have to confess, I did enjoy quite a few of the parties,

until, as the Mexican saying goes, " In time, every joke loses its

humor. " ! I get high on green leafy vegetable juice now! :):):)

y'all seems to have a pretty dim view of hippies for someone who wasn't

there. the methodology and the pharmacology were the same for both

coasts and the underscore of

searching for spiritual values and living in harmony on earth were the

same for both.

maybe you just have a skosh of the

wait a minute...

were you a beatnick? if so... kewl.

personally my first ambition was to be either a bohemian or a beatnick.

i really would have prefered bohemian though. artsy craftsy poetic

wine drinking introspectives. philosophers

all and damned fine humane beings to boot.

but i'm prejudiced :-)

unfortunately i was too old and the bohemians and beatnicks had pretty

much faded by the late 50's.

so i hitched my wagon to the Hashberrys rising star and wasn't

disappointed for... for quite some time.

it's been fun reminiscing :-)

Well, God bless, Saul, et al,

Is this going to turn into confession night?

I know, Saul, I did just about everything there was back then, but there

were a few months once, when a friend gave me a double-handed scoop of

freeze-dried strawberry tablets, containing organic mescaline -- about

1000 hits. He looked me in the eye, and said, " Here, spread these

around. "

It was a mission. I gave most of them to strangers at one of the first

4th of July smoke-ins at the mall in D.C. (If any listmembers happened

to have worked at the intelligence agency that photographed us & kept a

copy of the pictures, I'd love some!)

Seriously, life has become what many of us saw coming years ago. We have

a world where everybody did something foolish in their youth, and we're

still decent people! We listen to what politicians are really saying,

and ignore the anti-drug rhetoric as the pandering it is, and take note

of the panderers!

To be sure, I am an aggressive opponent of making intoxicants available

to minors -- and even immature adults! But, we have better things to do

with people's lives and tax dollars than to have them fight each other

in the criminal justice system! It has to be obvious to anyone with a

functioning brain cell that people who want drugs will get them. It is

human nature. Prohibition cannot work! Since it is a nutritional

deficiency, why not treat it as such? It is a medical problem for

doctors who specialize in this!

Addiction is a metabolic disease. It is an area where the

cut/poison/burn style of medicine is impotent. Addiction is a deficiency

disease where the body's most important sensor, the one to tell when

something important is missing, get's turned on all the time! Just

imagine that!

The reaching out for sugar, alcohol, pot, whatever.... is the body's

attempt to reach homeostasis -- that place where it get's to relax! It

wants to relax!! It is going to relax if it has to kill you! The only

way to turn off that sensor is nutrition. Wheat grass juice if you are

in a hurry.

The next first thing to try in every disease/disorder is oxygen! HBOT!

Ozone in most of its incarnations! Exercise to increase oxygen levels!

Diet to do same. It's all oxygen! Learn to understand it! You are a

carbon unit. You require oxygen. ;-)

Oh my Gosh, now you guys have me scared to take the hydergine I

bought....and I've got quite a supply (wanted to get the most I could out of

the $12 shipping I paid from Hong Kong...:~)

I have nothing to fess up to, except a bad one time experience with pot that

made me throw up--never again!!!!

So, do I take this hydergine for my brain or not?

Patty,

Most certainly, yes! Take it. I only caution people to start hydergine

slowly initially to make sure they have no reaction. It is good stuff!

But, it takes months for most folks to notice any improvement from it.

It is one of those things you take because you know it is good for you,

not because you can feel it. That's another reason I prefer

pramiracetam, I can feel what it is doing for my level of awarness.

Deb,

I meet a LOT of old hippies in the health food store. ;-) The national

WHole Foods Market chain was started in Austin by some 6th street

hippies!

Deb,

Do you eat your meat raw? If you do, I'm impressed. I used to when I was

a teenager. I've been thinking about going all raw food and eating meat

& fish that way, to get the digestive enzymes.

The syntax of your music question confuses me. Do you mean acid-loving

music, loving on acid music or music I loved in the acid days? My answer

to all three is STONES! I still listen to them, but now I prefer my

blues with more of an up beat, a la Keb Mo, or the master of humorous

irony, Randy Newman.

Deb,

What do you mean lost your protection? SBO's, specifically plantarum,

subtilis, salivarius and probably others, all dirctly kill & consume e.

coli, salmonella, shigella, candida and many other pathogens. That's

wpart of the reason I take them on a daily basis.

How about sushi? I'm thinking of reading a book on sushi to see what I

can serve at home.

graduated to the other stuff:)
