Hi, , and welcome to the group.

You are right to be concerned, especially since the lump in your chin

hasn't been examined.

Generally thyroid cancer protocol involves total thyroidectomy, followed by

radioactive iodine treatment, and TSH suppression (<.10) with levothyroxine

(Synthroid, etc.).

On the other hand, there is an increasing number of doctors who feel that

with small tumors such as yours, surgical removal and suppression are

sufficient.

Colly's letter just came in as I was writing this, and I agree with her

advice (and your instinct) to get a second opinion, and her own experience

is a perfect example of why more aggressive treatment may be a good idea.

While some list members are treated by oncologists, it's more typical for

thyroid cancer to be treated and monitored by endocrinologists. If you

tell us where you live, someone will undoubtedly be able to recommend an

experienced doctor to consult.
