Guest guest
Hi all, I stumbled across this series tonight by chance, but I very purposefully wanted to share it with you. From the PBS website: " REMAKING AMERICAN MEDICINE is a four-part television series for PBS that follows pioneering individuals struggling to fix our broken health care system. PROGRAM 1 - SILENT KILLER profiles individuals who are committed to fixing a health care system that is estimated to kill up to 98,000 people a year. PROGRAM 2 - FIRST DO NO HARM focuses on efforts to eliminate hospital-acquired infections and medication errors. PROGRAM 3 - THE STEALTH EPIDEMIC looks at groundbreaking efforts to create effective chronic disease management programs. PROGRAM 4 - HAND IN HAND shows how a unique partnership between patients, families and providers is transforming a teaching hospital. REMAKING AMERICAN MEDICINE is being produced by the award-winning media company, Crosskeys Media, who have also created a more in- depth patient- and family-centered care resource website at www.remakingamericanmedicine.org. " Obviously, we all have a stake in this. The first episode aired tonight and focused on medical mistakes and how innovative programs are trying to right the wrongs of the past. It featured the story of Josie King, a tiny child who died of dehydration at 's Hopkins a couple of years ago. The story detailed how her family has worked with Hopkins and other hospitals around the country to save lives. Here are a couple of links to check out: www.ihi.org (Institute for Healthcare Improvement) www.josieking.org (The Josie King Foundation) www.pbs.org www.remakingamericanmedicine.org I hope you all will find it as informative as I already have.
