My 12 year old son with celiac would get sick everytime he ate the

fries, so he quit eating them. My non-celiac son used to work for

McD's. He checked with the manager about the oil, and also rechecked

the labeling. Everything seemed okay at the time.

With grilled chicken removed from the gluten free list, and now the

fries, we don't have much reason to go there for lunch anymore.

I've been getting sick (with the glutenized pains/etc. in my stomach)

for the past few months when I've snitched some of his McD's french

fries, but I chalked it up to being a result of something else or just

paranoia! :P

I agree...I wonder how long they've been non-GF and just how much to

trust them now.

Very, very disaapointed here tonight :(

I sent off a complaint to them too, and I hope that many others do the

same thing.

Uggggg!!!!I am SO upset! is 7 and has been GF for 10 months.

It is amazing how well he has been thriving! But he has been getting

sick every now and then for the last 6 weeks. I haven't been able to

pinpoint it, but maybe it was the french fries. We have them every

Monday- and did just 5 hours ago!!! And the options around here are

so slim. Chic-Fil-A in the mall may be our only place for fast food

french fries!

Does anyone know when they changed them? I just wrote to

Fries (especially the ones produced for fast food places) have long been sorta battered for lack of a better explanation (technically it's not exactly a batter but they are coated with something). Supposedly it makes them tastier and crispier or something like that. Sorry for the foggy explanation, it's been quite a while since I worked fast food. Even without gluten issues, the ingredient list for fries is enough to make you think twice about eating them.

Dee

Soo, french fries at Mac's are not really potatoes?

Well, I have passed on my feelings

immediately. Is there anything left safe to eat at Mc’s, I have

tried and tried to get the new ingredient list, but continue to get the old

one. Can we do a burger with no bun and a shake? Or I guess we can do

apples. Trevor has diabetes so we have to have some carbs with our meal.

It definitely means less business from our family. If only they had to face

them and tell all our little celiacs they can’t eat them anymore…..

I know this may be a big thing for little kids. After all, my parents always took the kids to Mc's when they came up to visit. But the hamburger is rather disgusting when you take it out of the Big Mac and the fries are not really even real food after what they do to them. My kids are 11 and 7 now, and we really cut down on Mc's visits tremendously beginning about 2 years ago. Actually, I think the begging to go to Mc's had to do more with the toy than the food. When I got tired of the junky plastic around the house and told them we would be ordering two hamburgers, one large fry and water (the same selection for any fast food place btw...can't drop 10 bucks on lunch twice a week, but we can do 6), they began to asked for 's dollar menu. Where Mc's really has the marketing thing happening is the play space. As a mom of toddlers and

pre-schoolers Mc's was the place for me to go because I could visit with other moms while the kids played. I'll bet that's why many of you go. But if you get creative, you can still do it. Feed the kids before you go (if you're out and about, stop at a grocery store and pick up something), even bring some of your "snack" there. Order the apple salad. Order a drink. Then let the kids start playing before their friends so yours don't have to sit there and watch everyone else eat fries. If your kids are like most I know, they want to run and play before they've gotten half way through their meal anyway. Wow, your kids can have the best of Mcs without getting the worst!!!!! Keep positive. Kids pick up on negative attitudes. Don't give them a chance to feel like victims. Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth."Olson, Darla J [CO PD]"

I feel sorry for the little kiddies also.

It is a wonderful thing to feel normal! I’m sure that most of you really

don’t use McD’s or any similar food place very often—it’s

a special thing and something for a desperate day.

We used to go out to eat about twice a

year as well when I was a kid. In Springfield, IL, “Sandy’s”

was the precursor to Hardees. And we liked watching the number change on the

McD’s sign (# burgers sold…) Lots of things from childhood are sad

memories now, including lard for frying chicken and vegetables cooked to mush! Maybe

we can start to brainstorm some replacement options for those special treats?

I do recommend reading Fast Food Nation by Schlosser if you

haven’t already. It might help you release any attachment to fast food. I

read parts of it to my ds a few years ago (he was maybe 9). He’s refused

to go near fast food since! Easier when it’s HIS choice!

How about a really special treat being a

stop at a pharmacy for a gf candy? A little sugar can’t be worse

healthwise than those French fries! And there are lots of candy choices. Or a

bag of greasy, salty potato chips? (no drive-through, I know)

For other fast food: Subway salads? In New

England, Boston

Market? What else, you guys?

The good news is that my son loves the fruit and walnut salad (minus the walnuts, of course bc of WHEAT) so maybe I can tell him they don't make fries any more and he can get apple dippers with caramel or a grape and apple salad. That will be on expensive Happy Meal, but worth it if he's happy!
