I am 25 and was diagnosed with Ocular cea a year ago (after two

years of eye infections and no diagnosis). I don't have too much on

the facial symptom side however I've pretty much blushed my entire

life whenever I get embarrased or over heated from exercise, sun

exposure, etc. I too have read that cea usually occurs in people

30+. Very interesting... My father was diagnosed (he has facial

symptoms) shortly after I was diagnosed with the ocular. He's

probably had it for years but he was told it was " adult acne " from

dairy products. A friend of mine has a 17 year old brother who was

recently diagnosed too. I guess it really can strike at any age.

The doctors need to do more research!

My history was very similar to Matija's--diagnosis as

acne as a teen, topicals which made everything worse,

clearing and then remission when I stopped using those

products and starting treating my skin more gently

(i.e., using soaps and moisturizers for " sensitive "

skin, being a minimalist w/make-up, watching my diet,

etc.), residual pinkness but no active condition until

mid-20s when I began flaring again and finally got a

definitive diagnosis. I actually had relatively

flawless skin for about 2-3 years preceeding the

second onset of symptoms, and this time, their

progression was much quicker and more severe.

Hi.. I just wanted to say that I'm 16 and also have rosacea. I think

it began when I was 15.

I've also read everywhere that rosacea is usually seen in people

between 30 and 50, so when I doctor told me I had rosacea, I really

didn't believe him at first.

I also used to have a lot of acne, so the products that I used for

acne made my rosacea worst. Then I started taking an antibiotic for

the acne but now I realized it also helped me with my rosacea, so my

face looks a lot better now. My cheeks are sort of pink most of the

time and when my face is the worst, it turns deep red and sometimes I

get a few pimples. I don't know if this is a disease that can run

through a family, but I think that my grandmother had also a mild case

of rosacea.

I don't think this might help anyone but I just wanted to share my

experience, and I hope we will soon find a cure for all of us soon.

I know what you mean about that crawly bug feeling. I get it when I

eat certain foods, am in a dusty place or am in bright sun too long.

Take care!

until then. I'm 25 now. I say- what do doctors know? I've had to

leave 2 because they insist that a black person can't have cea.

I am 54 and have had rosacea for about 25 years. I am hypothyroidism and was

diagnosed with " thyroid flush " . It wasn't until about 10 years ago that my

Internist diagnosed me with rosacea.

I was thinking about that the other day - if black folks have rosacea. Your

skin seems to hold up so beautifully with aging. Does your face redden? Or

is it a matter of pimples? What are your symptoms? I don't think I've ever

noticed a black person with rosacea, how did you get so lucky!

// what do doctors know? I've had to leave 2 because they insist that a

black person can't have cea. //

Indeed. I am no longer surprised at the level of ignorance about this

condition. I'm fairly sure that the National cea Society web site

mentions that black people can and do get rosacea. Skin heating from

vasodilation, acne, telangiectic vessels and other dead giveaways occur. No

age or racial group is immune, to my knowledge.
