Guest guest Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 I was thinking about this just today. I once heard someone speaking on a radio show that had been mercury toxic to the point that she lost a lot of her mental abilities and her memory (much like I was before I started chelation). She made the point that some people with mercury poisoning don't get sick and some people who smoke cigarretes don't get sick the way she did. It's when you have mercury fillings and smoke that you can get really sick. What I have read somewhere is that the cadmium drives the copper deeper into the body tissues. I can't remember where I read this. I was thinking that if the mercury causes the mineral derangement that prevents you from excreting the copper and that the cadmium and the copper is really what screws us up so bad. I was like you. Started smoking cigarettes in my late thirties and thought it would be the same as when I was a teenager and smoked for a couple of years. It was the same time that my fillings were getting old and needing replaced. I was driving my truck each day smoking cigarettes and eating candy bars. Copper Question and Thyroid I was taking a thyroid support product by Nutricology. As I am reading it see it contains 200mcg of copper. I thought that mercury toxics should avoid copper? I do not have proof that I have a copper issue. but I suspect it. My past history of smoking and craving chocolate...indicate this. People that smoke crave the cadmium in the cigarrette because it lowers their high copper levels. I no longer smoke, but I still have issues with chocolate in relation to hormone cycles. And I do notice an increase in copper like symptoms following dmsa rounds. Is copper of any benefit to the thyroid? Is there something else to take? Quote

Guest guest Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 I stopped smoking in my latter 20's which would be like 5 years ago. I still can't figure out if I have a copper issue or not. But I am cadmium toxic on hair testing. And wondering if I am doing more harm with the thyroid supplement that has copper? I am thinking that perhaps I have copper in stores, but that my body isn't using it, thus the thyroid problem. That whole Hg messes up mineral transport. I believe you are right about cadmium driving the copper further into stores. I have read that too. And that those who smoke in the first place are copper toxic. This is the reason they seek out cigarrettes..to lower the copper. All I have come up with is that I need to take a lot of zinc in relation to the copper to keep a balance while treating the thyroid. So, it's the basic battle of craving chocolate when the copper gets too low, and then feeling sick when it gets too high again. Except I don't smoke, so I get depressed and agitated? Somedays I get more confused...and others I think I have it figured out. I am due for a round but am dreading the after effects of what I think is the copper comming out. Since the symptoms are different from the Hg. My hair copper was only 12...it must be really hidden... > > I was thinking about this just today. Guest guest Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Thanks TK, This supplement seems to be helping my thyroid and energy but not sure it's worth that. Do you have any suggestions of what else to take for subclinical hypo. I have no doc to prescribe Armour. Can't seem to find a glandular product. > > > > I was taking a thyroid support product by Nutricology. Guest guest Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Ph..another thing on that note, could this be why when I tried ALA even at 5mg it made me really sick? Gave me terrible crushing headaches? Because ala is known to raise copper? > > > > I was taking a thyroid support product by Nutricology. Guest guest Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 In my limited experience I have to be very careful chelating the copper. Maybe because I am very toxic with it. I can't take high doses of zinc without stirring it up. I take lots of molybdenum. I like to let the tablets disolve on my tongue and I can have one disolving in my mouth all day and still not get the recommended amount. I think said that it only takes months and not years to chelate the copper. I'm hoping that is the case. I listen to my body. And I cut back if I feel the symptoms from taking too much zinc. I take zinc lozenges. But I can't take them every day. You might find that it helps to relieve some of your symptoms when doing a round if you take molybdenum.
