Guest guest
I looked for this in my normal supermarket and didn't find it. Is it only in Wal-Mart's right now? Does anyone have a web link so I could see the box so I at least know what I'm looking for? Thanks! Guest guest
I am going crazy trying to find this cereal. I looked locally, but didn't really expect to find it. Then I looked all over the next largest town over (including at Wal-Mart) and still no luck. I have not yet been able to get to the largest city in my area (Fresno, CA) more than an hour and a half away, but I plan to soon. In the mean time I have e-amiled General Mills asking if they have any locations in the Fresno area that sell that particular cereal...It sounds like something my kids would love, and certainly a nice break from the Post Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles! nn ~Original Message~ This NeoPets cereal has also been a huge hit in our house. Guest guest
I contacted General Mills the other day asking if they had any stores in my area that were carrying this cereal, and they told me they would not have that information until the product had been out for at least 90 days. I can't believe a store would already have them on the discount rack! What size box did you get, since others have told me they sell in their area for under $3 a box regularly, maybe the box is a different size?? nn ~Original Message~ For those of you on the Islandberry Crunch hunt, I wanted to let you all know that I found some at Giant today BUT only in the " clearance " aisle because the grocery manager said Giant is discontinuing them due to lack of interest. As I understood him, he meant Giant as a whole, not this particular store. So the good news is I got 5 boxes marked down to $3.00 (orignally $4.50 each) (and yes, they are good! Mildly fruity, not TOO sweet and reasonably healthy with only 1g fat, 3g fiber per 1 cup) I had actually looked in their cereal aisle the other day, found none and decided to call to see if they would start carrying them--they actually moved them to a separate " clearance " aisle, which is really just a small hallway in the back of the store that I never even knew existed. I told the manager I can't believe they are already discontinuing them- -they just came out! Give them a chance to show some interest. I hope this doesn't mean they will be discontinued by General Mills. We should probably bombard them with emails showing interest in a maintstream gluten free cereal (maybe they'll make other ones too!) Guest guest
The box is 11.5 oz. but this is Giant--they tend to much more expensive than say Walmart but they are more convenient for me to get to than Walmart. Anyway, the kids have already eaten almost 1 whole box already--I may need to go back to see if they have any left. I was afraid to buy too much in case it would expire before we ate them--but it's looking like that won't be a problem! Guest guest
Did anyone notice the wheat symbol next to the ingredients, it caused me quite the pause until i realized that GM uses this sumbol for Whole Grain..... Guest guest
O.K. my happy dance is on pause. I just called general mills to confirm that this new cereal is gf. I have spent the last half hour on the phone with a rep trying to come up with the real answer. The first answer was that NONE of their cereals are gf. I then questioned the labeling policy because I understood that GM was one of the “good guys” – she agreed that yes you can trust the label. So, she had me read the label and we agreed nothing was there. Then she checked with someone else (for the third time) and said no it is not gf. None of our cereals are gf. I asked how or why they determined that as I didn’t see it on the label and there is no allergy warning, etc. She was confused but insisted that it was not gf, she didn’t know why – perhaps cc from oats, barley or rye as those don’t have to be declared in a warning. She took down all my comments about the cd community needing gf cereal, we’ve been excited about this one, Kellogg’s has fruity pebbles, etc. etc. She was very nice but in the end I am disappointed, not just because of this cereal, but because of the difficulty in getting a clear informed answer. Has anyone else called? What answers did you get? Has anyone had a reaction of any kind? I am wondering if the ingredients really are gf but just the fact of all the other non gf products and dry flouring flying around keeps them from saying it is o.k. In the past, GM reps have been firm that if it isn’t on the label it is o.k. I am frustrated! Becky
Guest guest
This is what I was hoping to hear. The person I talked to seemed knowledgable about the gf issue but clearly not that up to par on the new cereal – she kept saying “this is new” like that was a disclaimer. Then when I wanted reassurance on labeling in general her answers were somewhat conflicting. Argh! I am glad to hear that you actually called and got a good answer. The response I got was disheartening. I have 6 boxes in the pantry right now! I stocked up after the first bite. The trouble is that we don’t show obvious symptoms in response to gluten so I can’t trust the fact that no one is complaining. Especially when they all desperately want it to be o.k.! I am the one who first posted here about this cereal. I had called GM before posting to make sure that it is GF. The lady I spoke with there was very knowledgeable and I felt secure with her assurance that it is GF. Another reason that I feel confident about it is that there is no little disclaimer about this product saying that it is produced on shared lines, etc., which I am very sure that they'd add if it was a problem. We've eaten quite a large amount of it in our household with absolutely no adverse reactions. C
