Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Okay, the reason I asked is although I have continually said that I dont't think I have ever had a panic attack, despite illness and terible " attacks " of some sort that seem to hve returned only ot with as much frequency as I used to have. But THEN - I think had a full blown panic attack the other night, when I found myself in a slightly stresfull situation. (Car got stuck out in the snow at night down on the hiway....10 degrees outside, and with a weak heart and not feelng well altely, there was no way I could make it up the hll to where I live) I couldn't move, felt like I was not oxygenating, heart was rapid, I could harldy talk at all.....felt like this was my last hour, so to speak. the landlords lived only about 200 feet away and somehow I managed to struggle over there a let out a few very faint " helps " . So I did some investigating on panic attacks and found the Linden method that says that panic attacks are totally regulated by a part of the brain called the amygdala....and that their program can teach you how to fix this as it is behavioral conditioning of your own mind. Well, I ordered the materials for it, and they say that their program works 100%, but in order for it to work, you must absolutly beleive that there is NOTHING actually wrong with you. So here I am...if I had a paic attacks, according to them, it is all controleld by the amygdala and I msut convince mysefl that it is all in my head to get well. So this is why I am asking about the mechianics of a panic atack and how mercury can cause it. I also belive that my adreanals have porbably gone downhill badly, so perhaps your explanaton is the best one, I jsut need to know, becasue if I talk to their counsellors, they say that panic attacks are stricly NOT an illness. So which to believe.....sigh...what is REALLY going on? It has gotten so bad, that I am wondering if I have soehow been living in one bad semi-panic attack for a long time now....I jsut don't know.....\ I forget ......where do I find how to tell if you have hidden copper toxicity? ~Inga Recent Activity 11 New Members 2 New Files Visit Your Group Quote

Hi Inga, So sorry to hear your story. There is no reason to assume that mercury does not also target the amygdala. If it gets stuck there (or any toxin) it could activate irrational unconscious fear mechanisms. So there can be a physical reason (mercury) that these people (lindon method) may not understand. The damage could have even happened as an infant (vaccines), or in utero (mom's amalgams) and only be coming out now. As I understand it the amygdala controls unconscious fear. I spoke to a researcher that took what is called Functional MRI's of babies that were being circumcised. They Functional MRI shows up where activity in the brain is and what portion of the brain is damaged. The circumcised babies showed permanent damage in the amygdala. But these powerful unconscious fears are held back by the conscious mind, and only released when the conscious mind is ready to deal with them, or too weak to hold them back. Have you considered hypnotherapy? I wonder if Functional MRI's would be of any value in helping people with mercury poisoning figure out where any damage is. I worked with a person who was similar symptoms to you. We could not get hold of Desiccated Thyroid, so instead she used a Thyroid Glandular (which apparently according to the company does not contain hormones and only initiates repair). All her symptoms lessened immediately and the severe ones disappeared. Dean Quote

Guest guest Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Mercury interfers with endocrine function in the body. This include adrenal function. And low adrenals are known to cause panic attacks. Mercury will keep your body from using thyroid hormones, estrogen etc. In repsonse your adrenals try to take over the burden, but burn themselves out. Mercury is the only metal known to affect adrenal function. I suffered from them for many years. They are not all in your head, and I can't beleive anyone would tell you that you can psych yourself out of having them. Removing metal fillings, treating for adrenal fatigue will likely yeild results. I would get a hair elements test from Doctors Data Inc and see what metals you have. Panic attacks are what is supposed to happen in a crisis, and your adrenals cause it. It was designed to create the fight or flight in life threatening situations. However, in adrenal fatigue, these hormones that create that are being released for no good reason. Thus you are fighting or flighting when your not in danger. I also noted that mercury seems to cause paranoid thoughts which further feed the panic. > > I am wondering if anybody can tell me the mechanics by which mercury > can (or does) cause panic attacks? > Thanks, > Inga > Quote

Hi Inga, I'm sorry you went through this. Even someone who doesn't have a general problem with panic attacks could get one in this situation, mercury or no mercury, especially if they are tired and stressed to begin with. That said, I'm sure having mercury would make this even more likely. Mercury could be causing adrenal fatigue leading to panic. Mercury could be in parts of the brain and cause panic attacks that way. Mercury could be in the liver and cause chemical sensitivity leading to symptoms like panic attacks. Lots of ways mercury could contribute. > So I did some investigating on panic attacks and found the Linden > method that says that panic attacks are totally regulated by a part > of the brain called the amygdala....and that their program can teach > you how to fix this as it is behavioral conditioning of your own > mind. Well, I ordered the materials for it, and they say that their > program works 100%, but in order for it to work, you must absolutly > beleive that there is NOTHING actually wrong with you. Well, this is one theory. There is another theory that some people are sensitive to the accumulation of lactic acid and when they get too much of it (for example, from exercise) they are prone to panic attacks. Another theory says that some people are just very sensitive on a psychological level to the physiological changes in their body due to stress, and they interpret these changes as bad and scary and this snowballs into a panic attack. And I'm sure there are other theories. I had my first panic attack when I was about 8, and I've been through periods of extremely bad and frequent panic attacks and less frequent and less extreme panic attacks. I have had lots and lots and lots of talk therapy, drugs, done yoga and breathing exercises, played with diet and supplements, treated my adrenals, and of course I'm chelating. I consider myself a bit of an expert on panic attacks One of the best theories I have learned about is that panic attacks can happen because you are breathing the wrong way. There may be an initial trigger (stressful event, toxin, brain issue or whatever), but the problem gets way out of hand because you respond to that trigger by overbreathing. You tend to open your mouth, take bigger, " wider " , slightly faster breaths and this changes the ratio of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your system, leading to a full-blown panic attack. Some people call this over-breathing or chronic hyperventilation. The changes in breathing are subtle and you don't notice that you are doing this until things get really out of hand. I think this happens with lots of people, no matter what the original trigger of the panic/anxiety. There are probably different ways to approach treatment for this particular problem and you might want to search for the keywords " chronic hyperventilation " to learn more about this. The trouble is that a lot of doctors will think this is the only problem and more or less " blame " the patient for breathing wrong, when in fact it is a pretty natural reaction to stress. I can't tell you how many times I went to an emergency room during some of the bad panic phases of my life and they just treated me like a nut-case and told me I was hyperventilating. Well, I " got that " pretty quickly, but I also " got " that I started hyperventilating for some other reason and that part was not my fault. So what I'm saying is learning to " breath right " helps a lot, no matter if mercury or another toxin or some problem in the brain or some problem in the endocrine system is the real trigger for the anxiety/panic. I also think all of the other theories have a little bit of truth to them. Toxins (mercury and/or other toxins) are probably a big culprit for most people. And any of the treatments for panic could be of some help - whether you believe their theory or not. For most of my life I tried to believe all the crap from my mother and my doctors and my therapists that I was just misinterpreting the physiological effects in my body and I had to sort of re-train myself to believe that nothing was wrong and these feelings were all normal. In a way this helped me get through them, but there was a really big downside. When I got into major adrenal problems (which has happened about three times in my life), I just tried to believe nothing was physically wrong and I applied what I call " brute force of will " to get to the other side of the bad feelings. Well, I'm not dead. But I have to say I think I've brushed up against it a few times. All because I had taught myself to believe there was anything physically wrong. I have the impression from your posts in the past that you have some similar experiences, so maybe panic is an issue for you (even if some of the other things are also true, like heart and adrenal issues). > So here I am...if I had a paic attacks, according to them, it is all > controleld by the amygdala and I msut convince mysefl that it is all > in my head to get well. > So this is why I am asking about the mechianics of a panic atack and > how mercury can cause it. Mercury in the brain is one possibility, but since adrenal issues have been a problem for you, that is something you can't dismiss without either testing, or at least reviewing symptoms. And since you believe there are heart issues too, that is something not to rule out (unless you can rule it with medical testing). I have found that adrenal support helps a lot, but is not the only issue. I probably have both brain and liver issues, too. > I also belive that my adreanals have porbably gone downhill badly, so > perhaps your explanaton is the best one, I jsut need to know, becasue > if I talk to their counsellors, they say that panic attacks are > stricly NOT an illness. So which to believe.....sigh...what is > REALLY going on? It is not important to believe any one thing. Their treatment might offer you some help whether you believe their theory or not. You are the only one who can decide if there is something about this particular approach that resonates with you. I still find it is helpful sometimes to " believe nothing is really wrong " , as long as I am alert to the signs that maybe it is really a current toxin exposure or an adrenal crash or other physical problem. You have to keep educating yourself and becoming an expert on this so that you can decide when it makes sense to " ride it out " and when it makes sense to get some treatment or testing to rule out a serious adrenal issue or heart problem or whatever. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any true experts out there. You have to be your own expert, just like with mercury. > It has gotten so bad, that I am wondering if I have soehow been > living in one bad semi-panic attack for a long time now....I jsut > don't know.....\ Could be. > I forget ......where do I find how to tell if you have hidden copper > toxicity? Try searching the archives for " hidden copper " . I think Dean and/or I and/or someone else has posted some of the signs of hidden copper. If you can't find this, let me know and I will look. -- Quote
Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Great post by on panic attacks, etc. I just wanted to add that on Stage 3 of the Adrenal Stress Index link here, they mention this stage often produces anxiety or even panic attacks. This is also the stage where they mention the strange combination of having anxiety and exhaustion at the same time, or I have heard it called being " wired and tired " . http://www.chronicfatigue.org/ASI%20Normal.html Jackie T. Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 This sounds like very much where I have been at this last week. I was rushed to emergency last night, and of course, they had no interest in looking at the adrenals and were happy to see that my thyroid's TSH was nicely at 3.71,(argh!) as I had been taking this " quacky stuff " called Armour. I also boned up on the equivalent of about 45 mg of HC yesterday and took 30 mg HC (actually 7.5 mg prednisolone) today and am doing much better, but otherwise, I had a panic attack that started last tuesday night and lasted until I totally crashed and burned in the ER last nigh. Would they have thought to give me hydrocortisone? Oh no.....them poopheads. They don't even test for that....even though I was peeing about every 30 minutes..... ~Inga Great post by on panic attacks, etc. I just wanted to add that on Stage 3 of the Adrenal Stress Index link here, they mention this stage often produces anxiety or even panic attacks.
