Guest guest Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Is he GF yet? Or have you just had him tested? From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On Behalf Of wendy pandolfoSent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 10:12 AMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Growth Charts Recently I checked growth charts on line and noticed that my son, age 11,, who I believed was always tracking along or slightly below the 50% line, is now at the %25. Yet a year ago his doctor didn't mention anything at his checkup, or a couple weeks ago while we were in for something else. We've thought he's been looking thin, but I thought he grew tall and hadn't put the fat on yet. Plus he is getting much pickier about his food. He comes from parents who were skinny children (size slim all along...wish it were so now), so I know some of it is genetic. In fact his grandpa was told to drink a milkshake a day when he was a very young adult. My question is, at what point do you consider thiness I sign of nutrietial defiencies? When does a drop on the height/weight chart indicate a problem. I'm just curious. He has tested positive and his new gi doc nodded when I mentioned that he's thin, but I'm also on the alert for his 7 year old brother who is still just under the 50% but doesn't look much plumper. Guest guest Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 he is not yet. We have to wait till the biopsy...which the doc advised so we can get the gold standared "proof". Guest guest Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Ah, sounds like Celiac to me. My son dropped like that too. So, if he's tested positive then when is the biopsy scheduled? Guest guest Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 It sounds just like my dd too, only I was asking about it for a couple of years before *we* got the blood test and then informed our pediatrician. He was just as shocked as the rest of us that she is positive. " Calacci, Bridget " wrote: >Ah, sounds like Celiac to me. My son dropped like that too. Guest guest Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Here to give you reassurance about the growth chart... My son had the bx and went gluten-free. Since he had been premature, we always thought that that was the reason he was little. Once he went gluten-free, the slim pants were out! He has gained quickly very quickly and I struggle to keep up with his pants and shoe sizes. Everyone we run into says how quickly he is growing! He's now 10 and about your son's age.... Best wishes!
