REVIEWS

***Pevonia***

Pevonia has taken the unique step of launching a group of products

they call their RS2 Line-Ligne Rose for cea and Sensitive Skin.

However, the notion that any of the products in the Ligne Rose line

are appropriate for sensitive skin of any kind, particularly rosacea,

is nonsense. The basic rule for anyone with sensitive skin is not to

use products that contain fragrance. All the Ligne Rose products

contain lots of fragrance, including frankincense and

rose. The other vital issue is sunscreen, which this group of

products leaves out. Either way, the basic issue about sensitive skin

of any kind is that it is very difficult to know what will cause it to

react, and it takes experimentation to find options that work. (The

Pevonia review from the November/December 2000 Cosmetic Counter Update

:| $$$ RS2 Gentle Cleanser ($26 for 6.8 ounces) is just a very good,

standard, detergent-based water-soluble cleanser that would work well

for most skin types. This product does contain good anti-irritants,

but they would be combating the effect of the fragrance in here, not

helping yourskin.

:| $$$ RS2 Gentle Lotion ($22 for 1.7 ounces) presents some

questions--like the irritating fragrance in here and the guarana

extract from a plant that contains two and a half times more caffeine

than coffee and that can have constricting properties on skin. It can

therefore be a potent skin irritant, making this problematic for

anyone with sensitive skin or rosacea.

:| $$$ RS2 Concentrate ($48 for 1.7 ounces) still contains fragrance,

but if that isn't a problem for you, this is a rather boring but good

lightweight lotion for normal to slightly dry skin. The anti-irritants

in here end up being useless as they would only be fighting the

irritation caused by the fragrance.
