Guest guest
I think age and personality have a lot to do with it. My first and second are 3 1/2 yrs apart and it was hard for the first. He has a " hard to adjust " personality though. My second and third are 22 mo apart and the third is really ok with it. Just my thoughts and experience. Guest guest
So far it's been great! It's only been 4 days though... Em is wise beyond her years. She is a very mature 22 month old. She has very strong vocab skills and understands very broad concepts. Ok, enough bragging! My personal preference is 2 years. My sister and I are 2 years apart and we are very close. DH and his brother are 3 yrs apart and are close, but not the same. When the kids are in high school, there is a BIG difference between a freshman/senior relationship and a sophomore/senior relationship. If I got to pick how I spaced my kids, I'd have them about 2 1/2 years apart but be where they would be 2 school years apart. Love, Mommy to since 10-5-98 and Cameron since 8-10-00 jackpot@... http://users.pld.com/jackpot/oneyear/oneyear.htm

Guest guest
Our first two children are 3 years apart. We really liked this age gap. Our eldest was out of the family bed, weaned, able to dress herself, potty trained, etc., by the time I had my 2nd child and it was terrific!! She really loved having a little brother and took to him right from the start. My 2nd and 3rd are 5 years apart and that was way too long! You're really out of the loop as far as babyhood goes. Our son was still sharing our bed at 5, but he hadn't nursed in nearly 3 years and had been out of diapers for well over a year. Going 'back to the beginning' was very rough. And my 9yo and 6yo really don't 'play' with my 10mo old. They will forever (I fear) see him as a baby. They play well with each other, though, although they didn't until my middle child was around 2yrs and my eldest was around 5yrs. So my advice would say that it depends on what you want. If you want children who are very close and play together well, then I'd aim for 2 years apart. If you're looking to have a 'break' between siblings, yet a fair amount of friendship to exist between them, then I'd aim for 3 years. If you want a large gap, so that you're only 'baby-focused' on one child at a time, then I'd aim for 4 years or more. Hope this helps! > Hey I noticed your two kiddos are a little less than two years apart. How is > that working so far? I know it is a families individual preference on how > far to space there kids. Guest guest
My girls are 19 months apart and we planned it that way. My oldest adapted very well to the new baby and didn't have any jealousy at all. She accepted her sister with love and affection and I don't think it took her very long to forget the time before the baby came. My oldest is now 2 1/2 and the youngest will be a year old next week. They still get along fairly well, occasionally they fight over toys. And lately my oldest has been copying whatever her sister does because she sees her getting all the attention as she is starting to walk and things like that. Adjusting the first few months was difficult and it was hard to go places with both of them until the baby could sit up but it really hasn't been that hard and I'm having lots of fun with my two little girls. I didn't tandem nurse because my oldest weaned just after I became pregnant but I would have liked to and think I might get a chance next time. We are planning for the next to come shortly after the baby turns two. Blithe

Guest guest
All my kids are about two years apart. I have two that are 12 and a half months apart. Guest guest
Dawn, Ours are two years apart, but I think three years would be easier. *If* we have a third, it will be three years younger (at least). Guest guest
My first two are 4 years apart, we wanted 3 1/2 but it didn't work as fast as we thought lol I preferred that spacing because my ds was able to do stuff for himself, was out of diapers, could even get himself a snack if I was busy nursing his sister. My last two are 27 months apart and I found it very tiring the first few months because my dd is still nursing and in diapers, I think the tandem nursing is harder than the two in diapers lol She also didn't start sleeping through the night until she was 22 months, she woke to nurse occasionally until I was about 7 months pregnant. She still sleeps with us along with the baby. For me personally, 2 years is too close, I would prefer 3. My dd is still very needy and doesn't understand why I can't just put the baby down to do things for her, or to cuddle her without the baby on my lap. She does love him though :-) Which is an improvement over ds's reaction when she was born, he really didn't like having a sister for months, he had his heart set on a brother, well he's happy with his new brother now.
