Guest guest
Welcome, I am glad to hear you made it through the casting in one piece. You will have to let us know how the fitting goes. people in general are pretty good and you will not have a big problem. Some will stare, but it won't bother you after a while. There are two great places to buy t-shirts for the babies with great plagio sayings on them, one is www.preciousbambino.com and the other is www.CAPSKIDS.org There are some great files here for decorating the bands and also I recommend you read the files on " helping baby adjust to the band " and " getting a good fit " . I hope that helps and good luck. CAROLG > > I just join the group on Tuesday, I think. Today, we went for my son > Evan's casting. WOW. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. Congratulations on making it through the casting. People will stare or ask what it is, some ignored us all together. You are definitly not alone when it comes to family and friends saying they don't see it. My son was diagnosed as moderate to severe and almost everyone said they couldn't see it. His pictures are under plagio babies A andre c. After he got his band they started to admit they could see it. It turns out they just didn't want to hurt my feelings. We decorated our son's band with stickers. Guest guest
Well, congrats on making a very tough decision! For the most part, my family supported it. But a lot did say, " I don't see anything wrong...why are you doing it again? " Sheesh! It drove me nuts when I heard that!! But you'll learn to just ignore unwanted opinions(my family doesn't JUST have opionions about the band!HA!) No one knows what's best for YOUR children more than you. As for reactions of strangers...be prepared! It's amazing how many people just flat out ask or obviously stare(I use that for an opportunity to inform). But it's also amazing how many people either had a child or know someone who's child was banded! I got two t-shirts to help lighten the mood(early on), but I could care less now. It was just the first couple weeks I was very self-conscience-which i don't know why since Max could care less and he's the one wearing the thing! There is a " file " that gives good decorating tips. Or, depending on where you live, there might be someone who can decorate for you. I'm in Dallas and had a lady do it(I'm hopeless with crafts!) and it was about $40. Good luck! Keep us posted on his progress! Bye, (Max DOCbanded 2/7) > > I just join the group on Tuesday, I think. Today, we went for my son > Evan's casting. WOW. Guest guest
I'm sorry your casting was such an ordeal! People have already given you good comments on the staring, etc., so I wanted to say something about decorating. My son just got his STARband 2 weeks ago, and we decorated it following the instructions in the decorating file that can be found in the Files section. We painted with acrylic paint, varnished, and put stickers on it, and I think it turned out really well. You can see a picture in the photo section under Our Plagio Babies-N/Noah P-North Carolina. I think having the band decorated really helps with the comments and staring thing. All we've really gotten is comments on how cute the band looks. Good luck! -Amy mother to Noah, 7.5 months, STARbanded 3/17/06 --- In Plagiocephaly , " msarria3 " <msarria3@...> wrote: > > I just join the group on Tuesday, I think. Guest guest
Well the worst aprt is over. Most infants adjust well to the band and the parents come along I use stickers to decorate - clear back work best (not vellum). You can find them at craft stores, Walmart, Target, s, Hobby Lobby, Scrapbook stores, etc. It's best to ignore the rude commetns and stares. Another option is to have a ready response - he's got a flat spot this is fixing it similar to braces for the teeth. Most people understand that. Hopefully your family will come around. Let us know when it comes in. na, DOC Grad X2 Kiersten, DOC Band 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html --- In Plagiocephaly , " msarria3 " <msarria3@...> wrote: > > I just join the group on Tuesday, I think.
