Guest guest
I'm new here too, and I'm wondering if there's a mission or direction the group tries for? I'm sure it's not simply 12-step bashing. Perhaps more along the lines of discussion and support for people seeking alternatives? Anyway, I don't want to post purely recovery-orientated stuff if it's not appropriate. Don't worry about it. I've been on this list about 6 weeks, and my first posting concernedYahoo and the vagaries of copyright law (?!) in response to a discussion already going on. Then several of us engaged in an extended debate regarding drug policy, legalization, and the toxicological effects of marijuana. Of course, I signed up here to rant against AA, and have enjoyed much of that as well. My recovery group is non-Step, and about the only thing it has in common with AA is that members must desire not to drink, at all. No attempted moderation or "controlled drinking." But some here say they have achieved the status of moderate drinker. These sorts of discussion go on as well, and we do have in common mutual respect for personal choices in recovery (at least that is my observation thus far), and agreement that AA royally sucks. Also, as you may know, many in AA claim that if one takes anti-depressants and/or other psych meds, one is not "really sober." While no one on this list makes that silly claim, there are those who are skeptical of the use of these medications, while there are others of us who thank God (aka Doorknob) for them. That discussion was quite productive and stimulating as well. So, there really isn't any verboten topic here. And everyone seems both strongly opinionated yet civil in their discourse. That combination makes for a very enjoyable egroup. --Mona--
