I think the addiction they are talking about is that you need it in order to sleep. Of course, how you can tell the difference between that and severe insomnia that needs help to get to sleep, I'm not sure. Maybe the addiction is that you have physical side effects when you stop, but I'm pretty sure it isn't that you'd start taking it during the day. You don't get a high when you take it, you just go to sleep, so there isn't any reason why you'd start to take it more and more often. Just my guessing. Guest guest
Allicia, What were you originally prescribed the clonazepam for? If it's for panic attacks, you're supposed to be on a 2x a day dosage of anywhere from 1 to 3 mg. total daily dosage according to the drug company literature. Dosage for seizure control is higher, and obviously alot trickier to wean off of than if it's for panic attacks. Here's a quote about weaning off of it from the manufacturer: http://promini.medscape.com/drugdb/drug_uses_dosage.asp?DrugCode=1%2D1894 & Dr ugName=CLONAZEPAM+ORAL & DrugType=1 " When clonazepam therapy is to be discontinued in patients with panic disorder, the manufacturer states that therapy should be gradually discontinued by decreasing the dosage by 0.125 mg twice daily every 3 days until the drug is completely withdrawn " I can't find a recommended use for clonazepam where it's only given once daily at bedtime? - At 01:58 PM 11/11/01 EST, you wrote: >*( I am like this with my clonzepam...I am really bad addiccted to them. >I take 1/2 pill everynight before bed..and if I don't....well I'm up for at >least a day..solid....so i am trying to slowly ween myself off of these >horrible things... >Allicia

I take it and sometimes I forget to take it. I still sleep and I am not addicted to it or anything else. I think that you should listen to your doctors and quit reading medical books or looking things up on the Internet. If you want to know about a medication, ask your doctor. I can't see how you become addicted to something that you are given by your doctor. Do you want to take it at other times than when it is prescribed? Do you want to take more that you are supposed to take? Does it give you as high? The medications that we are prescribed are medications that a doctor give us. They are not medications that we have to go to dealers to get. Talk to your doctor. I would suggest though that he/she will take you off of them just because you are afraid. The problem is that most of the medications that you will be given will scare you to if you let them. Medications that help with pain or depression are all medications that we take because without them life would not be worth living. As far as I can see you are not going to be able to take any medications at all. I have started taking different ones and if I tell my doctor we stop them. As the one doctor said reaching that 4th stage of sleep is important. It is the healing sleep. The reason we have so many problems or part of the reason is that because we can't get to that sleep. I take Clonzepam and there are many night that I do not sleep and many mornings that I am up at 5 or 6 or earlier. << I have been to that site, but thanks for suggesting it..I have about read everything there is to read on the Clonzepam...I am soo scared...I just don't know what to do >> Take care, Irene Books may well be the only true magic Alice Hoffman

Guest guest
<< as for reading information.. my PDoc always encouraged me.. and I'm sure other's .. to read up on things.. he thinks patients should be involved in their own care.. certainly not prescribing drugs and stuff.. but able to give input.. My doctor does too. In fact he gives me information and so does my pharmacist. But if you get scared about what you are reading, talk to your doctor and then quit taking it. I have to read up on medications to make sure that they do not have a side effect of tinnitus. I have tinnitus and I don;t need it to get any worse. Also I have trouble with side effects from many medications and I need to make sure that there is not something that will cause me problems. As for addiction, I suppose some do get addicted. But I feel if you are following your doctor's advise then you well not be addicted. In fact if this fibro would go away I would stop taking medication tomorrow. I hate taking medications and used to stop taking it before I was supposed to just because I go tired of it. As for being involved with my own care, of course I am. I don't follow blindly along what others say or want me to do. I have to take care of myself. If I don't no one else will. I don't depend on my doctors or what I read, I use common sense too. I check with my pharmacist before taking over the counter drugs. Guest guest
Are you trying to get disability? You'd have medicaid (I thought it was Medicare, but the package the sent says medicaid) then (after 2 years. It took me 2 years, so I when I got approved I got it). I don't know if it's different in other states, but here it pays for quite a bit. Don't give up. See if you qualify for medicaid now. Check around in your area, you might find free clinics. We have a place here where you can get just about everything for free, except prescriptions and that is only if they don't have samples of what they are prescribing you. Check around. What about a health dept.? Just trying to help.
