Guest guest Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Thanks Donna - that was interesting:-)))))) Love ChrisThe probiotics for animal use usually contain a very broad spectrum of bacteria, so those probiotics can be given to different kinds of species. What's appropriate for the particular animal thrives in the gut, what's inappropriate dies. For my animals, I use Protexin which is an Aussie product and fantastic for stopping scouring in anything from cattle to dogs!People-probiotics have fewer varieties, usually Acidophilus, Bifudus and Caseii +/- some others. Pill-form has a much higher concentration than what's found in yoghurt (the advertisement in Oz is that you have to eat 22 tubs of yoghurt a day to obtain the same benefit as one capsule blah blah blah). If your gut is healthy, you shouldn't have to be taking it constantly as it should be reproducing itself in your gut. However good for after illness, detoxing, antibiotics, etc. If you can't swallow pills, open the capsule and mix with yoghurt or milk. Personally I can't stand the taste of Yakult, which contains the Caseii Shirota strain - blech! Both people and animal probiotics should always be refrigerated otherwise it karks it. Also thoroughly read the label - usually cannot be taken at the same time as antibiotics, but some people do both at once, although I can't understand why.Donna in Oz Quote
