Ear Infection

Have you read about mullein drops (placed inside the ear, NOT for

oral consumption) for ear infections?? I used it on two separate

occasions on my 17 month old son and it seems to have worked both

times. Found it at a health food store.

Excellent. I'll go to our local health food store tomorrow. The antibiotics are

sitting in the fridge just freaking me out every time I look in the damn thing.

ph, by the way has not complained of his ear once since this morning. I know

he is still not in top form health wise, but I'll research these drops, and if

there are no adverse affects then we will be all over those things. Thank you so

Apparently if you tape a bit of garlic OVER the ear it helps really well. I

guess the fumes alone are enough!

Our pediatrician doesn't even treat ear infections anymore. He gives

little pain relief drops but no antibiotics and says soon this will be

the norm. Course, I'm not sure of anything this guy says anymore but

just something to ponder.

Rhonda, Olivia's mom who was told those little spots in her eyes were

" points of light " when actually, they were cataracts.

I would ask for an antibiotic injection instead of pills. The injection

will not go through the digestive tract, killing the good bacteria. I know

that they can do an injection for strep, so I would think they can for ear

infections also.

Also, I heard about using echinacea drops for ear infections when my

daughter was little. I tried it once, about 4 years ago, and it did work to

clear her ears.

I'm new so I've missed some of this thread, but if your child has had several

ear infections, then one thing I would suggest is getting to the root cause of

ear infections. My 4 yo has severe allergies and always has fluid in the ears

that turns into ear infections. Right now, I'm trying to control the allergies

so as to stop fluid build-up in the ears (and, hence, stop the ears from

becoming infected).

Thank you so much. I bought mullein drops today they have an olive oil base.

Nothing else in them. He did not like the idea of having something deliberately

put in his ear, but he didn't cry for more than a couple of seconds. I

specifically asked if his ear hurt and he said " no " . I'll wait till his appt. on

the 15th with Goldberg to see if his ear is fine. I sang " Celebration " by Kool

and the Gang as I poured the antibiotics down the drain.

ph has had two/maybe three, no I think two ear infections in his whole life.

He is 4 1/2. This is one of the reasons I stopped seeing our immunologist,

because the first ear infection at age 3 came after being on antibiotics for

awhile. The two times it has happened it was because a cold had mutated/traveled

to the ear. But you are absolutely correct about the food allergies, I can name

over a dozen acquaintances whose children had bad ear infections, amongst other

problems, but refused to take dairy out of the diet to see if that was a

culprit. In fact one of the couple's son just had tubes put in his ears.

I also wonder if yeast is a big component of recurrent ear

infections. Dana had mentioned she thought that this was a

possibility and I kept thinking about it the last few days. Maybe

all the young kids who get vaccinated wind up showing compromised

immune systems by getting the recurrent ear infections. I wonder if

they treated these kids for yeast using an antifungal (a natural

antifungal of course), if their recurrent ear infections would go

Can I just tell you that the morning before he woke up with the cold, he woke up

asking for chocolate ice-cream. Helloooo!!! Why did I not pick up on this?

Yeast, why would a child wake up asking for chocolate ice-cream out of the blue

unless it was prompted by a craving? Guess who will be getting a little GSE

tomorrow with their lemonade. Good news, cleared his throat only once today, a

little snotty this morning, but no ear problems and no coughing. I'm going to

say a prayer tonight that this is number 3 for kicking a cold/cough/ and number

2 for kicking an ear infection on his own. Yeah!! (Behaviors due to the orange

juice I gave him while he was sick were outrageous though. Irrational crying,

saying one thing but meaning another, bit my mother in law, just monster

crabby/frustrated/pissiness. And it was constant switch from cuddly happy ph

to crabby monster. Total Dr.Jekell and Mr, Hyde that I remember from before).

Hi ,

I am excited for you and your son!!! Wow, not having to use

antibiotics to get rid of the ear infection, yipee. I wonder if the

crabbiness is due to overgrowth of yeast....let's see if his

behavior changes once you add the GSE. The other thing that I was

thinking from reading all the posts here (and other message boards)

is that sometimes orange juice is a problem for kids with phenol

issues. I think it was Dana who said it still gives one of her kids

problems even though she uses No-Fenol. Maybe your son also has a

phenol issue and can not tolerate orange juice. Dana, could you add

My kids don't tolerate orange juice, corn, or other orange/green

things, even with No-Fenol. This is improving with chelation.

I am stage one feingold and if he has this kind of reaction and you

are looking for a juice my kids drink calcium enhanced ruby red

grapefruit juice and lemonaide by whole foods (365 brand). or I make

lemonaide frome lemons and sugar. laurie P.S. my kids are just as

outrageous on orange juice and they get the runs as well!!

Garlic oil ear drops from the HFS have always done the trick for my kids

and my husband and I....

I recently used mullein drops for my own ear infection...felt a little

silly, dh said I was putting motor oil in my ears, and we laughed about

what I would tell the ER doctors if my eardrum suddenly burst! But it

worked! I have been using homeopathy from a classical homeopath for my

youngest son's chronic ear infection/fluid problems. He was just

checked by the pediatrician today, and even though he has a bad cold

with drainage...no ear problems! Homeopathy is new to me, so I can't

unequivocally recommend it yet, but if you want more info, email me

off-line.

My ped also mentioned the article in the paper today that stated that

medical associations are about to recommend NO antibiotics for ear

infections, unless fever over 102 is present. She said this is how they

do things in Europe, anyone know if that's true? Anyway, it was kind of

nice to be validated for a change...she may change her opinion of me

yet!
