Hey Deb,

>>>I love when people refer to getting another doc as " I Fired my Doc " <<<

I just fired my last primary doc to her ear so to speak over the phone, talk

about empowering!!! And I don't feel one bit guilty. Maybe the things I

said to her will get through her ego and make a difference with how she

treats future patients, but she isn't treating me anymore! BTW, I was

nice...just straight and to the point about why I would not be coming back

to her office again.

Elaine,

Yup. I'm trying another one. Eventually I'm going to have to get it right.

I can think of a few of us who were loonier than you but lets not mention names.

Ok there were some faculty who were loonier than any of us. (Remember Ducky

and the Great Ginkgo tree incident?). But, for sure, you should get some

kind of award in 2006.(yikes!). Think that they'll hold it in the " new " gym?

You take care as well, and thanks for the ammo. I just love to annoy these

guys, especially when they are pretending to understand what I'm talking about

and they don't. Even if I don't get answers there is the hope that tomorrow's

list of patients might get better care because they've gone home and looked it

all up.

Re: Endo visit

Hi Laurel,

Yes, at our next class reunion maybe I can get the Looniest of All reward.

Can you find a new doctor? Take care, Elaine

Jody,

Thanks for your advice!!! I know one is hot/cold, the rest are hot that they

brought up to me and talked about. I think you are right. I need to get

more info. on the nodules and how much would they take if it were a

sub-total. Right now, I think the most I would do is a sub-total. Unless

there is a real good reason.

One thing I think about, is I know 5 years ago, I had an ultrasound on my

thyroid. The nodules were nothing to worry about, everyone had nodules the

size I had. (So the radiologist said) I am curious on how fast they are

growing. Maybe I should also look into the two lastest ultrasounds and see

if they grew during that time. I am pretty sure my left thyroid lobe did.

Another interesting thing, I could be wrong here. I think I felt my thyroid

enlarge. I got tingly. It did it a few days after I found out I had the

vaso vagal syncope and I was salting up (with iodized salt) I never used any

salt before than. I thought it wasn't good for you. After a few days of

using tons of salt, I started not feeling to good, actually I was getting

more hyper, (that was before I was diagnosed in Jan.) So, I stopped the salt,

I thought it was related to the salt. I tried the salt again a few weeks

later, because the cardiologist said I need to salt, salt, salt for the vaso.

Again, the same tingly feeling in my thyroid and feeling sicker. I didn't

know what it was. Also, I didn't have the strangling feeling like I was

wearing a tight turtle neck, until the first tingling of the thyroid.

Then my GI found my Thyroid enlarged.

Then later I had the RadioActive Iodine Scan and Uptake. Strangely enough

that night of the day I took the pill and the technitium. I had the same

sensation and felt sick to my stomach, more hyper, palpitations got worse for

a few days.

The second scan I only had technitium, I didn't feel the thyroid sensation,

only sick to my stomach, the hyper, palpitations got worse again for about 2

or 3 days.

We know Iodine makes us hyper, but I am wondering if you or anyone knows if

Iodine can stimulate the thyroid cells to multiply?

Jody,

Thanks for the info.

I never could drink margarita's with the salt. Everyone thought I was

strange! It would ALWAYS make me sick! I didn't think about that until you

mentioned it.

I have my next thyroid appointment on Monday. Big day, an opinion from a new

endo! Then Thursday, appointment with old endo, I plan to ask her, (out of

curiosity) why she recommended RAI for me, even AFTER the Nuc Med Doc

recommeded surgery! This should be interesting if I don't get blown off!

The surgery department called and scheduled an appointment for a consultation

with a surgeon that has been recommended to me, in two weeks. She has been

around for 30 years at Yale. She is a thyroid specialist. She does however

have had a lawsuit that had been brought against her. I found out from the

CT state health Dept's website. I have to ask her about it. The website

does not provide anymore information other than there was a suit that has

been paid.

Hi Deb,

Only a guess here, but I think the iodine in the salt could do what you are

asking. I remember one night, out for my birthday over to the VFW club,

hadn't been feeling good, drinking margarita's with extra salt on the glass

and I felt a *pop* in my throat (in the area of the thyroid but didn't know

it) and I started feeling really weird...I think that is when my GD began to

run wild, prior to that

my symptoms were very mild...another 6 years and storm before I was

diagnosed.

Lately I have been doing some energy work for my thyroid and I am feeling

all kinds of things, exciting and scary at the same time. No clue what it

means yet so won't go into more detail for now.

Take care,

Jody

PS Didn't you have an appointment today?

Maybe print up the top 20 reasons NOT to have RAI and take it in for her to

have...tell her maybe she should think a little longer before recommending

RAI right out of the gate. If my endo did RAI, I would do this in a NY

minute. I am taking it in to her for her to share with other physicans who

still race into this, either blindly or for money.

Anyhow, just a thought...good luck on Monday!

Jody

PS If that is the surgeons only lawsuit in all her years of practice, then

she must be pretty good in this sue-happy society we live in.

Hey Jody,

This just appeared in my mailbox. No clue where it has been all this time.

I think that you are right. Either I'm unusually unlucky finding doctors,

or they are intimidated because I'm a nurse, or I have a rotten personality.

Of course I justify that because people who are unwell are entitled to

have rotten personalities! I get the sensation that most docs forget that

we are fighting for the quality of our lives. Or maybe I want more than

these guys are willing to try to help me acheive. All I can say is that two

lady doc friends have suggested that I report my second endo to the NY State

board. So far all I've done is to report him to the HMO.

I really appreciate all your help. Sometimes its very depressing isn't it?

And then you add the hypo symptoms (especially the ones that cause

depression) and you have a real mess. Makes you question your own

intelligence.

Right now I'm in Chicago taking a little break from life. When I get back I

hope to finally have all of the labs. I'm not holding my breath.

Once again, thanks so much Jody. Hope things are well with you.
