Guest guest
Yikes! He found us out. And after we hid the information so well...on a public internet web site. Quick, all UT Southwestern instructors...grab your cyanide capsules! Don't be taken alive. Kenny Navarro >> http://www.emsscopeofpractice.org/ Please view the project team. Guest guest
Comments below: >> Kenny, I have a question from an outsider looking in. Why is it that your strong views about EMS education have basically been dormant until the new EMS Scope of Practice emerged? << Ask anyone who knows me and I think you'll find my strong views on any subject have never been dormant. I don't usually post on this listserver because I don't think (in general) that it solves many problems. The only reason I responded originally is because some people were posting things that simply were not true. I don't mind folks having a different opinion but it needs to be based on reality, not misrepresentations. >> I have agreed with most of what you have said, but to proclaim yourself as such a strong advocate for EMS education and increasing amounts of education, where have you been for the last five years or more years. Are you really part of the on-going solution? << I've been trying to clean up my own backyard. And, by the way, the BioTel system is not anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe. My backyard is actually doing very well. >> Are you a member of EMSAT or some other organization that can make changes? Do you voice your opinion at the GETAC meetings or the EMS or Education subcommittees? << I am a member of EMSAT, although I don't know how much political clout is there. I am a member of the NAEMSE. I do voice my opinion to the EMS subcommittee. I'm always lurking about even if you can't always see me. >> It is real easy for us to jump on a band wagon when our supervisors are so close to an issue and an issue has strong influence over our jobs for many years to come. << I am not for the SoP because of my boss or because of any perceived influence over my job. As others on this list have mentioned, the colleges and universities having very little to gain (financially) by the SoP. BTW, my supervisor is the NAEMSE representative to the Task Force, not a member of the Administrative Team or the Technical Advisory Group. The Task force is a collection of representatives from various stakeholders including NREMT, ACEP, AAA, NAEMT, ACS, IAFF, AAP, IAFC, NAEMSP, and CoAEMSP. I will have my job as long as there is a UTSW Medical School with or without the SoP. >> We all must unite and formulate a document that is workable for the State of Texas. Unfortunately, Texas is so diverse that we will even have a problem within the State meeting everyone's needs. We are all going to have to adapt and overcome for the sake of our profession and for the goodness of the citizens we serve. << I would be willing to give on some of the issues. I've stated from the very beginning that I thought the final draft would be different from the first draft. I just want people to decide based on the truth. If you and I alone could make the decisions for the State, where would you be willing to compromise? Kenny Navarro
