Guest guest Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 No. The therapeutic dosage for kombucha is one liter per day in divided doses. In the cultures where kombucha is commonly drunk, people either drink it freely or do a " kombucha cure " where they take it for a few weeks and then rest from it. You can build a tolerance to almost anything, be it a drug, herb, kombucha, apple cider vinegar, or even exercise. When you build a tolerance to a therapeutic agent like kombucha, it will stop working after awhile. Therefore, taking rests from it will get rid of the tolerance problem. Of course, if you are drinking kombucha merely for the taste and not for health, it doesn't matter - you can drink it all the time. Quote
Guest guest Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 i let my body be my guide... personally i drink it like most people drink pop.... it is a nutritious food... i believe it can't loose it's value to your body ... that theory would be inconsistant with it's properties... it has remained a constant for thousands of years... if you want to take a break... take a break... i have drank a half gallon in a day with no adverse affect... i put it in my eyes like visine... with no adverse affect... it's that safe... if it ever upsets the works it's as easy as more water intake... it's not rocket science... biology at it's best maybe... that would be my expertise in my experience... happy day jude... call me... tinA jmb20346 <buhlj007@...> wrote: Hi, I was reading my Kombucha Tea for Your Health and Healing by Alick & Mari Bartholomew, Founders of The Kombucha Tea Network UK. They also say that drinking too much of the tea without a break every 2 or 3 months will make you dependent on the tea and you will lose some of it's properties. Should I take this as gospel or is it an opinion? Does anyone know for sure? I probably drink about 2 or 3 pints a day, it's my drink of choice. I've cut down considerably on my coffee intake because I enjoy the tea so much, do I really have to cut down on it and take a break for a week without any? Thank you, Judy Quote

Guest guest Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Hello: I have several big kombuchas in the freezer. is there anything special I have to do to reconstitute them? It is possible, isn't it? (just hoping here). thanks for any help I get. I tried it with one but the tea tasted a little strange and I didn't dare to drink much of it. thought I had better ask the experts before trying it again. Guest guest Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Every time you brew beer at home or regular tea, you will also obtain slightly different results. You are used to a uniform standard in storebought foods because the manufacturers work very hard to maintain a uniform product and taste. Nevertheless, it is still the same product, with the same chemical effects. Guest guest Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 > No. The therapeutic dosage for kombucha > is one liter per day in divided doses. IMHO, this is a little high and must be put in context with how strong you brew the final product. When the tea is fermented longer there are higher levels of acids produced making it unnecessary to drink that much and possibly even a little risky depending on your body weight. Although Kombucha can produce a alkaline body response, in excessive amounts it can overwhelm the body and can contribute to acidosis. I say contribute because this really depends on the initial health of the individual as well. Of course the longer you drink KT the more time the body has to adjust. So there may be almost no practical limit to what the body can take if given a slow ramp up and a healthy individual. With acidic brews I have seen it work miracles for both my wife and I on as little as 6 to 10 ounces a day. So take it slow and monitor your body. It is the ultimate judge in what works for you. - Len Quote

Guest guest Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Len do you have any specifics on kombucha contributing to acidosis. I hear this repeated very often and the argument seems simple. It all may be true but where is the referenced research. In any event it may be good news that " they " are doing some research on KT. To the contrary there is Dr. Barefoot research (and others) that indicate that KT alkalizes the body. One can test the hypo sis out for themselves easily at home via pH test strips. As you say this really depends upon the individual. Ed Kasper LAc. Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist Acupuncture is a jab well done www.HappyHerbalist.com Santa Cruz, CA. Guest guest Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 The problem is KT is an assortment of acids. As given many of those acids cause the body to have an alkaline response. For example KT produces citric acid on an interim basis during the fermentation cycle. (Ever have a KT batch that tasted a little like rotten oranges?) But the body's response can be overwhelmed by the amount of acid someone ingests in a finite period of time. One ounce every 15 minutes may not cause a problem over 12 hours (48 ounces total.) But 48 ounces in an hour could. Some medical conditions, both diabetes and systemic candidiasis come to mind, can weaken the body's alkaline response mechanism. Candida alone causes so many misdiagnosed conditions that it is wise not to take any illness on face value. It's unlikely you will ever see a direct link between acidosis and Kombucha. This is because the people drinking a lot of the stuff are also likely to be fermenting shorter so that the taste is reasonable and those that aren't probably couldn't force themselves to drink enough of it to overwhelm the body. However, it's always wise to gage one's response to the level of intake. And again, properly fermented, it only takes a few ounces regularly, to begin seeing positive results. - Len RE: Need Expertise <<snipped>> Although Kombucha can produce a alkaline body response, in excessive amounts it can overwhelm the body and can contribute to acidosis. Guest guest Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Note that Pork, Beef, Chicken, Crabs, Lobster, Shrimp, turkey, Eggs, Grains, Pasta, Rice all are actually __acid forming foods__ that will (especially where one may already be pre-disposed as you suggest) lead to acidosis. The likelihood that KT __alkaline forming food__ will contribute to acidosis in that circumstance is stastically zero. If one is a meat and potatoes man who drinks a large amount of KT. Don't stop the KT - stop the meat and potatoes!! The theureptic dose often cited by kombucha enthusiast seem to be one of those that are referenced from someone else's reference who referenced someone else reference. For instance in " Kombucha How-To and What Its all about " by Pascal, who cites the very maximum dose is 8 fl ounce per day to be taken only before meals and that excessive amounts " lead to fatal obstructive liver disease " . She also claims that the amount is not related to the size nor condition of the person. Pascal additionally cites KT is contra-indicative for AID and Candida is, citing in her personal experience of knowing AIDS and Candidacies sufferers. Other kombucha writers like Hobbs, and the anti-kombucha-man Pitchford claim (no research) KT is forbidden for AIDS. Yet the vast majority of AIDs and Candidasis sufferers actually benefit form KT. Information obtained from www.ayoram.com Logically what you (and others) say makes sense... Yet ... it's similar to the experience of " in vitro " experiments that in the lab prove one theory while actual " clinical " practice, in a person, shows just the opposite to be true. In my professional opinion (as one who makes & sells KT and also who has an 800 number that people call often) most folks seem to want KT for medical reasons and are not concerned with the taste and do ferment longer. That seems to me to be their preconceived notion of KT. How well KT works for them - or not, I do not keep records, nor am I allowed per FDA Regulations to report andecocatal evidence. Which is fine by me because I do believe that KT works individually. And therefore do agree with you that KT should be individually specifific. The easiest simplest method to resolve any concern is a simply pH test. Every person I know who drink KT has shown their pH becoming balanced. I will mail pH test strips to all who email me with the subject line " free pH test strips " to eft@.... The pH test strips are free and the postage is free. You may order either a audio cassette or CD to hear the commercial or not. The pH test strips are supplied by a manufacture comes in a little kit with directions. Ed Kasper LAc. Guest guest Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Selma, This is what I see. The angles are a bit tough to see everything from, but her roundness looks ok to me. I can see a bit of unevenness in the ear hieght, but can't see if there is front to back misalignment. Her forehead looks a touch narrow and the head length looks a bit long, more towards a scaphycephaly shape. This could also just be a familily headshape, you would know. Most of this is subtle and could probably be lived with, without treatment. Your best bet is to get to a CT clinic, even if it means driving a long way and have them asess her. This may be what makes the decision for you. They are honest and thorough. It can be so hard to show things in pictures, so don't get frustrated if you feel like noone is seeing what you are...this is common. The hieght difference in the ears and the way she looks in the pictures makes me wonder if there is any torticollis at all. Is there any? I just don't think you will feel better until you have her evaluated by competant people, so that may really be your decision to make right now. Nobody can see my son's plagio and it is diagnosed as moderate to severe. I think that alot of people say they don't see it just to be nice. Or they are just trying to think positively just incase it doesn't get any better. At least that's what has happened in my case. You should at least get an assesment and see what they say.
