I don't have any time for venting exercises. I see this as a workshop on

teaching methods.

I'd like to see panels on distance learning, problem based learning,

scenario based training, team learning, pyramiding, and so forth.

One idea I have is to ask the group to design a course using some of the

these techniques. Folks would work in groups first, then combine groups for

further work (pyramiding), and so forth.

I would also like to see a group of people develop a scenario to be used to

teach something; use of scenearios to teach and encouraging problem solving

(this is where you give them a patient with something that they can readily

assess and treat but you throw in all sorts of unexpected logistical problems

such

as patient location, combative patient, and so forth.

These would be demonstration/participations.

One thing I would like to do is to demonstrate how I have used scenarios very

effectively using some of those principles.

So please give me feedback, but keep in mind that we're going to be learning

teaching techniques, not railing against the system.

Best,

I just came back from Keynoting the Society of Michigan EMS Instructors and

Coordinators Fall Conference in Lansing--about 300 members. Two conferences

a yaer. Big input into state EMS business. Great sharing of resources. If

Michigan can do it, we can do it better. In fact, I will ante $500.00 as

the first contribution to such an organization.
