Em,

I would tend to agree with you, I do have poly cystic ovarian syndrome. You

could be right! I also wonder how many others with fibro have this, maybe

there is a connection. Unfortunately I loose the hair on my head but seem to

have a problem with it growing on my chin. Talk about

frustrating..........it's very costly to keep getting rid of it, but its so

embarrassing that I have to spend the money to do it! I also had a

hysterectomy when I was 26 so that could also have started that problem. take

care and have a good painless week-end!

You can usually tell why hair is coming out by the pattern of hair loss,

generally. Round bald spots -- probably what you have -- are indeed caused

by stress. Your doctor may have used the term alopecia as a catch-all for

stress hair loss, but alopecia areata actually starts out with round bald

patches as well. The more generalized hair loss you describe while

showering can be for a number of reasons. I do know that women with

polycystic ovarian syndrome have a great deal of trouble with hair loss. I

have no idea whether or not it's linked to FM.

I wonder how many of the women on this list have both FM and PCOS. I do,

so I attribute my rapidly thinning hair to hormones, but maybe the FM is

also contributing to it. I dunno. I sure wish it'd quit, though. *sigh*

Best,

Em

die from it. You will just be uncomfortable many days and things will

get better I promise as the days go ahead. You just have to a have

alot of hope and love in your life and things will get better! I

FMS Gal - I just joined this group. I have FM and I have had it since I was a

child. It has gotten worse over the past 5 - 6 years. I had a total hysterectomy

in 1995. That followed 3 years of fibroids in the ovaries and the last year a

cyst the size of a lemon in my uterus. Does this correlate to what you are

discussing here?

Thanks Jo

Joanne,

Yes it does. Like I said I had a hysterectomy in 87, and have also have the

tumors on my ovaries which they did leave! Have had 4 surgeries since the

hysterectomy to remove them..Sounds like are histories are very similar..

Em, I have both fibro and pcos. My hormones are pretty level because

I am on the pill and no one can find a reason for my hair loss BUT it

is most definitely falling out. It's just another phantom illness

along w/ the swelling in the right side of my face and arm pit. One

day my cheek swells back by my ear and the next day my arm pit is

killing me. I've had MRI and other various test and they show nada,

nothing...that's why it's a phantom illness.
