Guest guest
I have to say there is one great thing about all the premenopausal stuff my body is going through at this point in my life: I'm warm all the time. What, you may ask, does this have to do with Margaret's email? The cold never keeps me inside anymore! It has been the most bitter cold winter in Vermont that I can ever remember. Yesterday the high was zero degrees! No problem for Miss Furnace in Her Body! I went snowshoeing in the gloriously freezing sunshine with just a sweater, hat, and gloves. A winter coat, you say? Surely you jest! I think I warmed up the entire state a few degrees just by being outside! LOL! I love getting outside and having the sun on my face, even if it is freezing cold! The premenopausal furnace inside me definitely has its plusses! I tell myself that if I finish my work early I can go snowshoeing. That keeps my fingers at the keyboard! (We won't talk about the summer heat. That is a very ugly topic at this point in my life!) :-) S. vtmt@... www.mt-resources.com Cabin fever Okay, I have it figured out now. It's not spring fever, it's cabin fever. And the reason it has affected me so early this year is simply because I now live in the south (North Carolina is so much warmer than where I lived in Indiana and Colorado), but the winter started so early this year (remember the ice storm in early December) and has been colder than usual, with much fewer warm and sunny days. Okay, so there were also those two weeks that I spent in Indiana, during which it snowed twice and we spent a lot of time playing in the snow, sledding, snowball fights, etc. Anyway, it's been a long, cold winter. I am very tired of it and ready for spring and ready to get outside and play (working in the garden is playing, right?). Thanks everyone for the suggestions and words of encouragement. Will keep plugging away. Of course it doesn't help that I am having to work during the day today, when the sun is shining and it is almost up to normal for here, right before we are expecting several days of nothing but rain. Oh well, will keep going anyway. Have a great day everyone. Guest guest
Ramona, I do! I cannot wait until we finally pay for the land we purchased in Northern Idaho and am able to build a house on it! In southern California, this is the second day it has been raining, and raining, and raining. It is supposed to let up by the weekend. Very depressing. Well, back to work. You too, Margaret! Guest guest
I can identify with the cabin fever! We are on our second day being housebound (no school) because of snow and winds gusting to 40 mph. We have had about 10 inches of snow in the past two days. Plus my kids have been sick a lot this year. I think my daughter brings a lot home from kindergarten and shares it with the rest of the family! LOL. My kids, 5 and 3, are dying to go outside, but it's just way too cold right now. We're driving each other nuts. They don't seem to think I need to do any work. Right now my son is saying he is " starving, " but it's not for lunch - it's for the chocolate chip cookies we made last night! I am SOOO sick of winter!!!! COME ON SPRING! Guest guest
Good suggestion Jan. Everyone needs to see their doctor and consider whether they need to be on HRT or not. In my case, I did not have hot flashes or other symptoms that needed to be treated and my doc said it was fine for me to quit HRT, but not until after I had a bone density to make sure there were no problems with osteoporosis. She did say that if that was a problem, it could be treated with Evista or other such products. My mother and sister both have osteoporosis, but I don't have any problems with it. Did you know that carrying around extra weight may help prevent osteo? I sure didn't, but that is what they think has helped me. My sister said she has been told to " put on a few pounds. " HA, wish I had that problem. Back to work Margaret >>> " Jantranscribes " 02/12/03 11:57AM >>> From one postmenopausal woman to another... I can tell you my GYN says HRT is NOT a no no.. I'm still on it and plan to stay on it for a while yet and she has no objections whatsoever. Of course it depends on what you're on.. If you're on Premarin or Prempro, I'd say get off it and switch to estradiol or Estratest or whatever. I'm on estradiol, and Provera because my menopause was not surgical. There was quite a bit of hysteria when that study first came out and people overreacted. Since Premarin and PremPro is made from pregnant horse mare urine, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, and I think that's where the problems are coming from. My GYN said if I want to I can skip a day now and then just to see how I feel, but it's really not that big of a deal. Of course, this would also all depend on what other medical issues you have going on and your family history. Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. My GYN said if I want to I can skip a day now and then just to see how I feel, but it's really not that big of a deal. Of course, this would also all depend on what other medical issues you have going on and your family history. Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. " " Whoever signs the paycheck makes the rules. " Cabin fever Okay, I have it figured out now. Guest guest
From one postmenopausal woman to another... Guest guest
Interesting that you should bring that up, Margaret. I'm on a diet to try to lose some weight (30 lbs to go), and then I'm hoping to tackle the next hurdle, which is to quit smoking. Amazingly, my family doctor agreed with me that it made more sense to lose some weight first and then quit smoking, since I'll probably gain some of the weight back when I quit. At the weight I am now, 10 lbs. would put me in the obese category. Just last week I went for a bone density study. I don't have the results yet, though. My mother has osteoporosis, so my GYN and my family doctor are both concerned that I have it too. I suspect that's one of the many reasons my GYN wasn't in any hurry to take me off HRT... that and my age of 49. Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. " " Whoever signs the paycheck makes the rules. " Re: Cabin fever Good suggestion Jan. Guest guest
Jan, Anything is worth a try! Thx for the suggestions. My doc put me on Prempro 2 years ago not because I was symptomatic, but because of issues with family history, mainly cardiac type stuff, but I gained 15 pounds in 3 weeks and quit taking it. Doc had a small fit and sent me for a DEXA scan, which thankfully came back normal. I've been taking Remifemin and it helps some, but not nearly enough. My annual GYN visit is coming up so we'll see what he can come up with. Dawn C. Subject: Re: Cabin fever From one postmenopausal woman to another... I can tell you my GYN says HRT is NOT a no no..
