Sounds like my girls! They were nursing for about 20 minutes at first and

then became VERY efficient nursers. They could empty a breast in 5-10

minutes. As long as he is having a good amount of wet diapers and is happy

and gaining well then there is no need to worry!

My son was always this way too. It always baffled me when I'd talk to

other moms, family or bfing friends who'd talk about their baby's " feeding

schedule " --we had none!! I think some babies just sortof naturally can get

themselves onto a schedule while others never do. And I know for me, when

he'd start to fuss, I'd immediately offer the breast first rather than

messing around with trying to comfort him any other way so maybe I just

conditioned him too. It was just too easy for me to nurse him and be done

with the fussing. People would always comment on how I had/have a very

content and happy baby and I've always wondered if it was just his natural

temperment or if this had something to do with it.....Although there were

many days I would've loved to have one of those babies who scheduled himself,

as we're driving down the road and he's decided he needs to eat!!

baby gain well) within the first 6 months by nursing less than 7-8 times a

day. I know I've read it more than one place but the quote I can give

right off is from my favorite book " The Nursing Mother's Companion. " But,

My babe is the same way. I always offer breast 1st and many times that is all he needs. If he bumps his head he wants a quick suck. He is now signing so whenever he wants a suck he does the sign for milk. it seems since he has learned this he does it all the time. He thinks it is cool that whenever he does it bamo mommies milk in his mouth! He is too cute.

The other night I could hear skin rubbing together like he was squeezing something in his hand. We cosleep. So I flipped on the night light and he was sitting up in his side car crib and squeezing (the sign for milk) with a big smile. I grabbed him close and he nursed to sleep. I love those times

I think you are OK. My dd was a marathon nurser as a newborn - I limited her

to 20 min per side cuz I couldn't take it any longer and figured she was

comfort nursing by then any way.

Now she is done in 5-10 min total.

I think you are OK. My dd was a marathon nurser as a newborn - I limited her

to 20 min per side cuz I couldn't take it any longer and figured she was

comfort nursing by then any way.

Now she is done in 5-10 min total.

If the marathon nursing bothers you then I would recommend stopping. You don't want to feel resentful. But, if it does not, nursing for comfort is very important! My Ds has always done it and he still does. Personally I would prefer he used me for comfort rather then a nonanimate object. I am not putting down or judging anybody who does it differently. This is just how I have done it and it has worked for me. Everyone needs to find their "happy" spot and what you and babe are comfortable with. good luck
