Guest guest
Howdy, I was wondering how long it would take for this to appear...after I saw that TEMSF had taken control of this, I knew it wouldn't be long. Let me be the first to approach the edge on acceptable behavior... I just want to ask, and would appreciate an answer, if EVERYONE on this list will be held to these standards? When certain members berate others for not using spell check, instead of helping them with their inquiry... When members on this list make long running and somewhat immature jokes at others expense after they ask what they feel was a legitimate question... When someone posts their opinion about another member and tons of other " members " jump up and try to track down who was saying bad things...including using means to investigate their background and who/why someone would say such things... When long term members of this list post things that, although humorous, are not EMS related... Will all of these cases be held to this standard? Or will it just be the new people and those whose opinions might differ? Here is where I am coming from...this list has been in existence, according to Yahoo, since September 1998. I have been on this list for 4 of those years. I have seen people come and go, be welcomed and attacked, and the list continues and we love/hate/speak kindly/kick people all at different times for different reasons and the list continues. Why, suddenly, do we need these " Acceptable Use Policies " ? What will this do but limit people's involvement at a minimum and censor this list to a group of people who all think alike as the worst-case scenario? I had to post this, hope I haven't violated any rules...but before I go...to " t_temsf " who posted the Acceptable Use Policy...YOU DIDN'T SIGN YOUR POST...not a good way to start a more stringent policy on list behavior. Dudley Wait Schertz EMS PS: Who are the " volunteer moderators " ? When DSHS had this, at least we knew who was providing their limited control... Well, to my knowledge this has never happened so I don't see the concern. I do remember the character assassination attempt on Dr. Bledsoe and the witch hunt that followed. Is that what you are talking about? I doubt anything would have changed regarding those events. > When long term members of this list post things that, although > humorous, are not EMS related... Censorship is the last thing on our minds and any opinion is welcome on the list..... no matter how offbeat or odd and no matter if it differs from any of the moderators. Again, it is behavior, not opinion that will come to the attention of the moderators. I was the original drafter of the AUP, drawing from the policies of several other EMS related lists. The draft was passed before the TEMSF board and all active committee members for review and comment, then we asked some outside folks to look it over. Once all the edits were incorporated the AUP was uploaded to Yahoo where they very kindly post it for us monthly. The posting was automatic and a service offered by Yahoo. None of the other lists that do the same have signatures attached, so I fail to see any concern. > PS: Who are the " volunteer moderators " ? Guest guest
Guys, what I DON'T know about pre-hospital emergency care scares the you-know-what out of me. I read everything I can from trade journals, keep up with my CEs, and almost always consult the internet after completing a call. After I ventured that our service uses a certain drug in the pre-hospital setting, I felt like I got whacked off at the knees until Gene came to my rescue. I see this message board as a safe way to pose questions of a clinical and legal nature, to learn how different services practice pre-hospital medicine, what's new on the horizon in terms of care in the field, and even just for the camaraderie [run spell check on that!.] Berating folks, rude remarks, arrogance, condesencion, and verbal abuse just don't reflect the kind of professionalism that I want to see, or be a part of. We keep complaining about not being considered professionals and I believe the professionalism must be reflected in every single thing that we do, and say, every single day. A lot of us learn a lot from this message board. Don't make us afraid to ask. > > > I just want to ask, and would appreciate an answer, > > if EVERYONE on this list will be held to these standards? > > Yes Dudley, it wouldn't be fair otherwise. > > > When certain members berate others for not using spell > > check, instead of helping them with their inquiry... > > Rudeness won't get you moderated right off the bat, but it might get you a > private warning letter. Guest guest
paramedicine... also a Yahoo group. Good list, very in-depth and insightful posts. You'll recognize many names from this list. Posts from across the nation so you get a great perspective. There is one dedicated to research, fewer posts, but good. Mike Re: TEXASEMS-L Acceptable Use Policy WHAT ARE SOME OTHER LISTS? RE: TEXASEMS-L Acceptable Use Policy Dudley, I wouldn't anticipate any major changes if I were you. Honestly, I wouldn't even worry about it. I have been on this list a long time as well, actually, after looking, my first post was September of 98. I have seen a lot of threads, both on and off topic, come and go. G** knows some of them were waayyy out in left field. I personally hope it stays just like it is right now, good mix of intelligence, inquisition and humor. Gotta tell you though, if you think this list is rough, I belong to a couple that are aboslutely unforgiving, I think I come here for the peace and quiet...
