Guest guest
Great board. Thanks to all for the great info. My daughters peditrician told us last week that we should consider a helmet therapy. She reccommended Cranial Tech in Toluca Lake CA. I called them them and they came off as " salesy " They were really trying hard to sell me and that kinda sent up a red flag. I might be paranoid as I am just starting to reasearch the helmet therapy but has anyone else dealt with Cranial Tech? And is this a good trustworthy company? My daughter is 10 weeks old and has a flat back of her head. From what I understand, the earlier the better. Any advice anyone has for a new parent trying to make sense of it is appreciated. Thanks to all in advance Butch

Guest guest
Hi Butch. My daughter is now 7mos old and we chose not to band her. We started this ordeal when she was 4mos old. We started repositioning her as soon as we got information from this board. 2 neurosurgeons and her pediatrician said she was mild and they did not recommend a band. I chose to go to cranial tech in NJ for another opinion. They said she was moderate and recommended the band. Well, I too felt they were pushing the band and so did my mother. They scared me to death with all the medical issues that they think that plagio can cause. well, they have no data to back up the medical claims so they should never have spoken to me about that since my baby was mild or moderate on there scale. Well, we went back to the NS the end of June and my baby looks great. She HAS rounded out. Her ears and eyes look great. We did repositiioning, CST and PT for the tort. She is being discharged from PT in 3 weeks. So, I think CT does push the bands. I'm not saying they are a bad company. The bands are great, but in my opinion not for mild babies. You can check out my baby in the photos under Brielle B. Good luck, Debbie and Brielle -- In Plagiocephaly , " bclarknyc " <bclarknyc@y...> wrote: > Great board. Guest guest
Thanks Jen. I appreciate the response. My wife and I are going to meet with CT in a couple weeks. My daughters doctor said we can wait a couple to see if her heard rounds out. I am doubtful....its just to flat to me. my wife is trying to convince herself that will get better on it't own. Glad to hear that you have been happy with the staff. I guess I am just a little untrusting with some in the medical community. How long did you wait until you went with the first band? My daughter is 11 weeks old. Thanks Jen Butch --- osmom55 <warrmiano@...> wrote: > we are currently in treatment at cranial tech in > toluca lake - i > cannot speak highly enough about them!! karen is our > tech and we > love her - and the office staff has always been very > accommodating > and helpful. we are actaully in our 2nd band - we > started late - and > wish we had started earlier. please feel free to > email me with any > questions!!! it really is amazing how great the doc > band works!!!! > ~jen > > > > Great board. Guest guest
Hi , i'm not sure who wrote the original message below yours but , it's not 1600 if you don't have insurance or if your insurance doesnt cover it , i had to pay the full 3000 and my insurance doesnt cover it , because my deductible is 5000 , i just wanted people to have the correct info on the doc band price . i wish i could only have paid 1600 that would have been nice , and we couldnt afford the monthly payments either so we had to get the care credit card and charge the full 3000 . Re: Cranial Tech Length of time in band (obviously depends on growth spurts, etc.)# of bands and what correction we'd expect to seerisks with banding (we were told none)risks of not bandingcost...$3000 or $2700 if you pay all of the cost upfrontmeasurements (our insurance didn't require them so I had to ask...they were kind enough to do them for us)appeal process (they'll tell you to ask the insurance coordinator) ...ask for an appeals packet unless you know that your insurance will cover it.If this were your baby would you band them? Why or why not?Hopefully, this helps with some of the questions that you may want to ask CT. CT was great and I'd highly recommend banding especially if you aren't happy with your little one's head shape as this is the only time to correct it. Our son wore his band 7.5-9.5 months and is now 15 months. His head looks great...of course it is not perfect and after all my scrutinizing I still see where it is a little flat but NO ONE else would! I will do it again if I need to (baby #2 due end of February). Babies usually adjust to the band very quickly. Our son was the same happy baby the entire time banded and we didn't have any skin issues.Good luck in your decision.> > > >> > > > > Anyway, if you can get a consultation with> > > > > Cranial Tech (they're free) Ray, probably the physical > therapist> > > > > there will be able to tell you everything you need to know > > (mine says> > > > > she can tell the minute she looks at the child).> > > > > > > > Looking at Cranial Tech's website (www.cranialtech. com) I see > > that > > > > there are very few clinics, though it sounds like many in this > > group > > > > have made the trek. Guest guest
Just an FYI it's my understanding that all Cranial Tech locations are switching to a computer image/scanning process. My son was just " scanned " instead of casted for his exit/graduation Our location I believe was the third to get the machine and trainning. --- christineashok <christineashok@...> wrote: > I agree with that I wouldn't base my decision > of where to get a > band on the casting proceedure. Guest guest
Our son was casted two weeks ago at CT in Charlotte. I asked the technician about the scanning and he said they have no immediate plans at this point to switch to the scanner...and he also said that the Charlotte location is the largest in the country. The casting really isn't bad at all. It is over before you know it. -----Original Message-----From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ]On Behalf Of AMANDA MCLAUGHLINSent: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 3:46 PMPlagiocephaly Subject: Re: Re: cranial tech Just an FYI it's my understanding that all CranialTech locations are switching to a computerimage/scanning process.
