Hi,

Jen's comments about the lady at the casino reminded me of pictures that my

father took of our family during our last move.

(my youngest) was 7 weeks old that day we arrived at our new house,

and in every picture of her and I all you see is the back of her head. I

was nursing her in every single picture!! In a few you could see a fraction

of skin between her head and the flap of my nursing shirt, but not in every

picture and not very much skin at all.

I hate to cover with a blanket since it gets so hot during the summer.

Amy Lynn,

It is so true. I usually tell women to practice nursing in the mirror

before nursing in public so they can see what others see. Usually that

makes them feel more confident that they aren't showing too much. :D

You do it over and over and over.....

The latch I usually have to look. My baby has latched onto my *arm* and

given me a hicky on my arm before, lol, not to mention the ones on my

areola, so I can't trust her to latch on centered on her own.

I usually have my nipple exposed while she latches on. You can see it from

above but really no one else can. Or you can turn your back on any people

while you latch on and then turn back around.

I have a dd like yours. I had a male flight attendent come by and offer me a

I didn't use a blanket more because it seemed more cumbersome and I thought

it made it more obvious what you doing even if no one could see anything. I

have a picture of us a my brother in law's wedding where I'm nursing my

then 3 month old daughter and no one is the wiser. I do like my sling for

discreet nursing, nothing at all can be seen, and since I also use it to

just carry them around, no one knows what they are doing unless they are

noisy eaters!

I always felt like I was drawing more attention by covering up

too then by just doing it. Nursing shirts are great I might

add. I don't mind just pulling up my shirt, but when you are

out and about and need to walk around or something then is when

I think they equal their weight in gold :)

Because of the problems we've had nursing in public is not an option...YET!

(see I'm still hopeful <grin>) I often wonder though...how do you unhook the

bra and latch the baby without looking? :)

I'm still trying to find some I like, for when we're out. I'll have to go

after the baby so I can try them on, the store I was at wouldn't let you

return them if they didn't fit, so my choice was to buy one that was great

big and would look like a sack on me or take a chance on not being able to

use it till I lost some weight. They had this GREAT black dress I wanted

for church but I couldn't buy it because I didn't know if it would fit, it

will likely be gone when I go back. I'm hoping maybe they'll have more of a

selection then, there were only a few choices.

The unhooking the bra is pretty easy after a while, I just do that from

underneath so I was staying totally covered up while I did it. If I had

trouble rehooking, I just pulled it over my breast and hooked when I could

see what I was doing. I always held mine in the cradle hold, so you get a

pretty good idea where the baby's mouth/head need to be to latch on, and a

hungry baby will find the nipple, that's one thing the rooting instinct is

for. I nursed in public from the beginning and was more comfortable with

each with each baby.I have a friend who could only nurse if her breast was

totally hanging out because she was usually home she never tried anything

elso so had to work outings around feedings. I determined when I first had

my kids that I would not be tied to the house and would do/bring along

whatever was necessary to keep up a fairly active lifestyle.

I've nursed in public a fair amount and will be doing alot next week

on vacation. My problem with NIP are 2 fold. #1, I have never learned

to nurse one-handed. I have very soft floppy breasts, and my dd can't

latch on unless I hold my breast with my other hand. This causes

additional skin exposure and makes nursing kind of obvious no matter

what shirt I wear. #2, dd is 5 months old and is in that very

destractable, head-whipping around, nipple-exposing stage. She also

pulls at my shirt or any blanket I use for cover to make sure

everyone sees what's up. I don't have a sling and don't have time

before this trip to get one. I guess I'll do the best I can, the baby

has to eat. I usually try to find a spot away from others as I am

pretty modest. The person next to me on the plane will have a bit of

a shock though. LOL.

Cheers,

Jen, I tend to just lift my whole bra up from the bottom, lol,

defetes the purpose of a nuring bra, lol, but it is so much

Jen,

I have bras that don't have any fasteners http://www.decentexposures.com I

can reach up under my shirt and pull the bra under my breast (which also

helps to support my large breasts) That way I can do everything under the

cover of my shirt and then pull it up just enough to get Zaid latched on.

Of course, he then usuallly pulls my shirt up and over my bare breast

because he likes to lay his face on my bare breast. LOL

Sue, I found quite a few of my tops at thrift shops even a

motherhood dress size med. for 1.99, gosh you just have to look

around. I got a motherhood top at a yard sale for 50 cents, now

that was pure luck. Sorry. I have to lose weight too but have

no motivation, wish I had someone to walk w/me or workout w/,

but it is so hot here, but I know that shouldn't be an excuse,

besides being tired :) ohhhhhhhhh
