Guest guest
YOu were probably given Ampicillin-sulbactam (Unasyn) -- Treatment of choice for infected bites with a spectrum similar to Augmentin. Contains two-thirds ampicillin and one-third sulbactam. You might want to write it down if you're going to need further medical care for this bite. Unasyn is usually what's given after Augmentin didn't work. BTW, The Baptist System in San (especially North Central Baptist) has a great team of on-call/referall hand specialists. Hope this helps, Cristi

Guest guest
Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your cat bite. I have had a similar one and, as you now know, a bite into the joint is nothing to sneeze at. Cats bite when frightened. Mine bit me when I inadvertly came up behind him when, unknown to me, he was carrying on a " conversation " through the patio door with a neighborhood stay. He just reacted in reflex fashion. Pasteurella is the most likely culprit, but there are many other organisms that contribute, so most cat bites are multiple organism infections. Augmentin is the drug of choice. I hope your bite resolves quickly. Guest guest
As each day is considered a learning experience, I learned something today, well yesterday really....cat bites are horrendous. I was bitten at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, on the left index finger, 2 puncture wounds both at the middle joint, one on top, and the other anterior, actually in the joint. Painful, let me tell you. Washed with warm soapy water, cleaned and dried. Went to bed. Woke up less than 11 hours later to a swollen index finger from the tip to the knuckle, with an increase in pain and decrease in mobility. Contacted my PMD (also my Medical Director) got 2 grams of Rocephin IM (almost as painful as the damn bite) updated tetanus, and toradol for pain. Scrip for Augmentin and sent home. Filled the Augmentin first thing this morning, by then the swelling had increased by 1 inch into the palm, and down the posterior side of the hand. As directed by my physician, I followed up with an ER here in San , got IV antibiotics, but lost the paperwork so I can't remember what it was (started with a 'U' and I received 3 grams). Discharged with the knowledge that if it was unchanged by tomorrow morning, I was to report back to the ER so the hand specialist can do surgery, as the infection apparently has seriously affected the tendons. As of now, the swelling has continued to increase, incorporating the middle knuckle, and almost to the ring finger knuckle, so it's looking like I will once again be at the hospital..... Add to that, the fact that it was a stray and I didn't get the chance to stomp it to death before it got away, so I could possibly be looking at the series of vaccinations for rabies. All because I was trying to get the cat to a warm place before the cold snap set in. I learned 2 things: a) to look at cat bites as an serious call next time I will run over the cat repeatedly. Guest guest
Well, the pain meds have worn off, so am a bit more clear headed, though I am still typing with one hand (don't say it), the antibiotic that I got in the ER was Unasyn (thanks Cristi), seems to have arrested the spread of the infection. It is Pasturella multocida, I have a follow up with an ortho doc on Monday. With all that said, I am going to start penning my new cookbook, " 30 minute dinners with cat meat " . I'm sure it'll hit the top sellers list quickly. Guest guest
A throw using the tail as the grip, provides a great increase in cetripetal impulse, and a corresponding gain in distance for the toss, like throwing a hammer vs. a shot-put. If they don't snap under the strain.... TD Dried cat works well for " Cat-Cakes " ....sort of they way me ol' ma used dried cod (Baccalla).... > There are not very spherical unless dropped from a great > distance, those run over may cause a slice due to the > tail. > > Barry > > In a message dated 12/25/2004 12:48:37 PM Central Standard > Time, donn@... writes: > When one tires of eating cat, one can always play games. > Flat cat Frisbee golf can be very challenging. > > Regards, > Donn > > >
Guest guest
Tater Salad, did you just every think the cat may not like you either???? LOL Jane Hill -------------- Original message from " Hatfield " : -------------- As each day is considered a learning experience, I learned something today, well yesterday really....cat bites are horrendous. Don't screw with the cats....... 'Tater Salad' Hatfield EMT-P " Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditiones habes.
