Tater Salad, did you just every think the cat may not like you either???? LOL

As each day is considered a learning experience, I learned something

today, well yesterday really....cat bites are horrendous.

I was bitten at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, on the left index finger, 2

puncture wounds both at the middle joint, one on top, and the other

anterior, actually in the joint. Painful, let me tell you.

Washed with warm soapy water, cleaned and dried. Went to bed. Woke up

less than 11 hours later to a swollen index finger from the tip to the

knuckle, with an increase in pain and decrease in mobility.

Contacted my PMD (also my Medical Director) got 2 grams of Rocephin IM

(almost as painful as the damn bite) updated tetanus, and toradol for

pain. Scrip for Augmentin and sent home. Filled the Augmentin first

thing this morning, by then the swelling had increased by 1 inch into

the palm, and down the posterior side of the hand. As directed by my

physician, I followed up with an ER here in San , got IV

antibiotics, but lost the paperwork so I can't remember what it was

(started with a 'U' and I received 3 grams). Discharged with the

knowledge that if it was unchanged by tomorrow morning, I was to report

back to the ER so the hand specialist can do surgery, as the infection

apparently has seriously affected the tendons.

As of now, the swelling has continued to increase, incorporating the

middle knuckle, and almost to the ring finger knuckle, so it's looking

like I will once again be at the hospital.....

Add to that, the fact that it was a stray and I didn't get the chance to

stomp it to death before it got away, so I could possibly be looking at

the series of vaccinations for rabies.

All because I was trying to get the cat to a warm place before the cold

snap set in.

I learned 2 things:

a) to look at cat bites as an serious call

B) next time I will run over the cat repeatedly.

Don't screw with the cats.......

And to think I was just going to find it, kill it, and throw it in the

trash can....I would have missed all the fun!!!!!! Between the recipes

and the new Olympic events, there are no wasted parts of a cat, and the

entertainment will be endless!!

I, too, have been sent to the ED as a result of a cat bite and it's

not fun.

What I believe we humans forget when dealing with the kitties, is

that their whiskers and 3 paws are still firmly planted in the

jungle. No human ever owned a kitty. Domestic kitties simply

tolerate us living in their house and sharing their sleeping

quarters. No human ever trained a kitty-cat, they train us! LOL.

Hope the finger is improving though, that's no laughin' matter, for

sure.

I have been bitten both by a cat and a copperhead and both bites felt about

the same to me. I have cats for the past 14 years and the one that bit me was

new in the household and very frightened but never bit again after she became

comfortable at her new home. She was very lucky as she almost went back to

where she came from. The others I had were never biters.
