Guest guest
Hi Jill, It is simply common for renal function to decline during an episode of viral illness, then return to its baseline after your recover. It sounds like that is what happened in your case. It is really a blessing that your function returned! Guest guest
Serum creatinine can fluctuate a bit without there being any real change in kidney function. But there are two ways kidney function can be affected: chronic renal insufficiency, and acute renal failure. IgAN is basically a chronic disease with chronic progressive loss of kidney function. That's kidney function that doesn't return, because the glomeruli are permanently scarred. But, there can be many reasons for temporary loss of kidney function due to inflammation in the kidneys, or infection, and, when episodes like that resolve themselves or are resolved with treatment, the kidney function returns to its previous level. Pierre how can kidney function flucuate > How can you have lets say 90% kidney function but then about 5 years ago I had a temp of 104.7 and completely black urine and ended up at the hospital. They told me that they didn't know what was wrong with me and told me to get an AIDS test. Off the top of my head my numbers were creatine 1.4 protein >300 ,and large amounts of blood (no numbers) my white blood cells were extremely low too and I can't remember the other things that were wrong. Now wouldn't just the info given would be a sign of kidney problems? And how can it jump from 50% kidney function back up to 90%. Does the kidneys stop using some of its ability to rest? I don't understand. Thanks Jill H. > > >
