Guest guest
Ahem...that SHOULD read: Hi, Dragonsdictator, and welcome to the group. I don't use speech recognition software, but here is a very good (and reputable) site for you to explore regarding SR: http://www.mtmeetingplace.com/ Newbie Question and hi all I am new to the MT field and have many questions. The one that stands out most for my situation is typing speed. I am handicapped and can only type a meager 20 words per minute. I think I have my Vocational counselor sold on attempting the use of Dragons Naturally speaking Medical Suite 6 as an aid to increase my speed. I am also trying for a maltron one handed keyboard. They claim you can achieve 80 words/min. I was wondering if anyone uses speech recognition software? Is it a good tool for increasing your speed? Is this something the National companies would embrace from a disabled worker? From what I understand you can train it to your voice and attain an 97%-98% accuracy rate. Another thing is, I don't expect I'll ever be capable of in-house transcription. Like I said, I'm disabled and my office chair is basicly my bed. I have done much research for a homebased business, yet find much information lacking. So in closing and anticipation of your replies I'd like to leave a little morsel for any other disabled MT's who currently work in the field or are positioning themselves to do so. There is an organization through the Veterans Administration called National Telecommuting Inc. that has MT jobs specifically set aside for disabled MT's. I have a plan to first get my feet wet working for the VA, using it as on the job training. From there I hope to venture out and privatize locally. Oh yes, I have contacted Terri, MedQuist regional hirer for my area. She said they have hired newbies fresh out of VLC's program. They offer entry level testing to any of their partners in education graduates. Think there is about 15/20 of them. I'm leaning to VLC because their comprehensive course offers billing and coding as well. Here's the link to the VA Job site www.nticentral.org Thanx for any insite, lastly, what is in your transcriptionist dream office?
