Guest guest
Hi all. Just thought I would check in after my nephrologist appt. today. No surprises--another decline kidney function. This time my serum creatinine went from 2.8 to 3.3 in less than 4 months. The good news is that my blood chemistry levels (potassium, phosphorus, etc) are fine. I am a bit frustrated, though, that I still do not qualify for EPO shots. I do not know if it is the same elsewhere, but here in Australia they won't prescribe the shots until the hemoglobin is under 100 (sorry, I can't remember the units). My count was 102. She said when treated they like to keep a patient at about 120. Hopefully then I won't feel so desperately tired. I am teach high school boys and by the end of the day I feel like something the cat dragged in. I'll have blood work in 6 weeks to see if I can hit the magic number. It is odd to try for a bad result! Thanks, everyone, for being so supportive. (an American in Australia)
Guest guest
Well, bless your heart. It's a Texas thing. It is so frustrating when things just continue to go downhill. I don't know what else to say. Other than, if insurance in Australia is anything like insurance in U.S.A. , it's like pulling teeth to get things like EPO or aranesp shots, primarily because the insurance doesn't want to fork it over. Your lab results have to be WORSE than bad to get anything done. Oops! Sorry to be so pessimistic. I've got a long way to go. I think I'm in the anger phase. _____ From: hotchkissm Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 6:48 PM To: iga-nephropathy Subject: just checking in Hi all. Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry to hear that you took the jump over 3.0 You hate to get into the next category so to speak. I kind of know what you mean about the EPO shots, you feel a little foolish wishing for the right number to come up. I think from what I've read, I'm right on the boarder line too. Interestingly enough though, with my last change in meds, I am less tired. I go for labs this week and I'll be interested in knowing if the hemocrit has remained the same or if for some reason I've had a slight improvement. Let us know what your next labs say. Hang in there... Connie just checking in Hi all. Just thought I would check in after my nephrologist appt. today. No surprises--another decline kidney function.
