The itching can be an allergic reaction to the medications, or I believe high

phosphorus levels can also cause itching. You should let your doctor know in

either case though just to be on the safe side.

I hope you both feel better!

Hello Argen,

I reached the same conclusion when my son was diagnosed (he has the kidney

problems. I have the urticaria). Ever since my son was diagnosed, I've

begun to think of the urticaria/angioneurotic edema as being tangentially

related to my son's kidney problems. I rather see it as an immune defect -

one of the vaguely defined cluster of immune problems that are common in

IgAN (or MPGN) families. Mine get worse under stress - usually I'll be

breaking out in hives before I even realize how stressed out I am. Last

summer was particularly bad -- both hands were swollen up three times the

normal size for 2-3 weeks. It was so bad that I couldn't even clench my

fists. As soon as the stressful event passed, the hives backed off.

> That's terrific Jill - I'm at about 80% functioning. Rita

Rita for some reason I thought you were lower than that...I'm happy to hear

you are better off than I thought you were. :)

I had severe itchiness on my legs when first diagnosed. My doctor, like

Rita's, said it was from nephrotic syndrome. Once I was on medications and

special diet things settled down and I haven't had any itchiness since...and

I'm at about 45% function.
