Guest guest
hi lia, i am almost one month post-op from upper, lower and genio and am banded shut. to be honest, at this point i don't think i would be ready to start at a new university. physically i feel fine, i guess i get tired a little easier but other then that i'm ok. the main reason why i still dont feel 100% is that my swelling is still bad and i am not comfortable with how i look yet ( i am happy with my new bite and chin though!! .but, i think i may be in the minority. from what i have read on the boards, most people are happy with their appearance at one month post-op. my surgeon said that the reason why i became so swollen was because i have really sensitive and fair skin. another reason why i would not feel totally comfortable going to a new university at this point is eating... right now i am still on a liquid/mushy foods diet. my surgeon wont let me chew yet. so i would imagine that might be a little limiting in a dining hall scenario. your surgeon is right about the fact that everyone is different, but i think he can help you somewhat in predicting what your recovery will be like. definitely ask him about what he thinks of your skin type in relation to swelling. my surgeon did not tell me his thoughts until after my surgery and my swelling was quite a shock! i mean i knew it was going to be bad, but not that bad also every surgeon is different regarding eating, so you should ask him when you could expect to begin earing normally again. and of course, alot depends on whether or not you will be wired or banded shut. if i was wired, i would definitely not feel comfortable starting at a new university. everything about this whole surgery process is really difficult, but i am optimistic that the final results will be worth it! let me know if you have any other questions. good luck, hillary > i will be moving away to college in september and will be having the > upper/lower jaw surgery this summer,,,Those of you who had the > surgery, how are u mentally and emotionally 1 month after the > surgery?? Guest guest
Hey, Lia I am also, almost 1 month post-op. I think 98% of my swelling is down, and I am feeling great. I found I was feeling myself after about 1.5 week, as soon as I got off that Sudafed - that stuff makes you sleepy. The only downside is the eating, but my parents keep feeding my good blended-up cancautions of various types which are pretty good. Also, I am not soposed to go running, swimming or biking... so that is not very fun. Hopefully, once I get these elastics off in another 2 1/2 weeks or so, everything will be back to almost normal. I am going in to 2nd year at WLU university in Canada - and I can tell you that the Fall semester is not something to miss out on. You meet a lot of people, party a lot, frosh week, etc. As long as you have 7 weeks between the time of surgey, and the start of school, I think you will do fine. After 6 weeks you will not have to worry about liquid food any more, and your eating will most likely improve quickly - although I can't tell you from experience because I am only at week 3.5. > > > > > i will be moving away to college in september and will be having > the > > upper/lower jaw surgery this summer,,,Those of you who had the > > surgery, how are u mentally and emotionally 1 month after the > > surgery??
