Guest guest
: 2 MONTHS PAID VACATION for summer break. Not really....the paychecks that come over the summer have been taken out of the years pay. Could opt to not get summer pay as well. They work 8 hr days, Not really....my day never ended after 8hrs.......NEVER! May have gone home after 8, but that's about it. But just with the comparison here, if it wasn't for the fact that I don't have the patience to deal with the students I would get the BS degree and work that job over EMS anyday. There is no comparison, done both--....although just like EMS, you shouldnt teach just for the paycheck--it's definitely not worth that!! (and pts/students will suffer) Kathi
Guest guest
Kathi, that was an excellent rebuttal. I'd hoped someone would take those flawed assumptions to task. let me add another point by asking a question. While teaching, how often did you take money out of your own pocket to buy supplies not provided by your employer? Still, we are failing in this thread to address what is needed. We are again falling into the trap of " what's in it for me? " We need to think globally and consider the effect our actions (or inactions) today will have on future generations. We are past the point of immediate gratification and nothing we do (or fail to do) today will have immediate effect. Those who follow us in this profession will be the ones having to deal with our messes. As has pointed out, the way to proceed is to organize. If we are not united and working in the same direction we may as well just hang up our spurs. The best means to organize is within the folds of a professional association.
