Mr. Grady,

Way back in my Para-god school in 1988...we were taught the different types of

SVT...as a matter of fact, we would have missed questions on tests (including

ACLS) if we didn't know the difference... " callin' it SVT is lazy medicine " is

what I remember distinctly.

I wonder where it got off track? Maybe at the same time that we started caring

more about people passing the course instead of making sure they knew the

information. I am truly glad, 16 years later, that I wan't part of a " no body

fails " course...you had to learn the material and be able to use it effectively

and instinctually to get through the course.

I think we're getting back to that, although the teaching techniques we use

now are so far superior to the way courses were done then, that it makes it

easier for people to pass. Plus, I think people just know more about

cardiology

now than they did 20 years ago.

I use the scenario/problem based way of teaching almost exclusively, and I

find that instead of simply memorizing terms and regurgitating them, they have

better ability to use them, because we make them play a lot in real-time

scenarios.

There are still some " quick and easy " courses, and I'l well aware of that.

It's unfortunate, but I have seen that there are folks who really are

conscientions, want to understand what they're doing, want the knowledge and

skills,

and we are never short on students who want to come to our courses.
