From what I've read, it's more typical for people with adrenal insufficiency to be low on cortisol but sufficient in aldosterone. Of course there will also be people low in both. It seems the usual recommendation is to start on hydrocortisone and then monitor to see if aldosterone would also be needed. The medications for low aldosterone, like Fluronef (sp?), are fluoride based, and it seems a person is better off avoiding them unless they're obviously necessary. > Hence my question in my earlier post about Isocort possibly been 'better overall' since it will contain 'all' the hormones produced by the adrenals. Is that correct? Don't know. I have heard it contains adrenaline, which will cause problems for people. If they take enough Isocort to restore cortisol levels, they will have unpleasant symptoms from too much adrenaline. I've heard it has echinacea, which causes allergic symptoms in some people. The advantage of Isocort is that it is available on-line without a prescription. > Also, are there any herbs that increase aldosterone production and/or activity? > And do you mean Sodium Chloride salt (i/e normal salt?) The salt that is recommended is Celtic Sea Salt or Redmond's Real Salt or other unrefined salts. Although normal salt is mostly NaCL, it is a toxic substance because of the extreme heat is is processed at, plus additives, plus the refining out of other minerals.
