A new study links cinnamon to better blood-sugar balance, especially for those with pre-diabetes and diabetes. While experts can't fully explain the effect, they say consuming 1 to 3 grams of cinnamon a day can improve blood glucose, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein, and total cholesterol levels. A 1-teaspoon serving will provide 2.3 grams of the sweet spice (while adding a mere 6 calories).The spice is made from the bark of cassia trees and was first discovered in the Southeast Asian nation of Sri Lanka.
