Well something florescent that would be the sign for radiation, maybe with

that triangular symbol used for radiation...I would do it!

Honestly, I think the BIG thing that we have been talking about, that needs

to find a way to someone who could expose this and throw a monkey works into

the whole shabang is the way our cats are dealt with after being given much

lower doses of I-131. But people are being laughed at when asking if it is

dangerous by their own doctors...and I have recently read 2 accounts of

this!

If, as in Minnesota where lives, the state law is so strict with our

pets and isolation...why are they not so strict with humans. Something in

this does not make sense, and is stuck in my head as something that is very

very very important!

I have to believe that the reason way to many are now recommending RAI for

children is because of the cavalier attitude far to many doctors are taking.

If I were you, I would research your states laws on the RAI and pets, how

long they have to be isolated etc. print it up and keep it in a safe place

( maybe able to offer you some input on where to begin looking for this.

I say this because of what you had said regarding the first doctors really

pushing this on you...all across this country, parents are being hauled into

court, after losing custody of their child(ren) becuase they have refused to

vaccinate, or refused traditional cancer treatments so they are deemed to be

abusive parents. This happens every day and I don't say it to scare you,

only to make you aware, should some doctor down the road push this so far it

were to happen, you have one heck of an argument against them doing this to

your daughter, ever.

Also, 2 years ago, my endo had told me that Buffalo Childrens Hospital in

Buffalo NY was doing BRT (block and replace therapy) on children diagnosed

with graves...I do not know if they still do it, but it may be something to

bring up to your new doctor as the success rate, in Europe is much higher

than it is in the states just using ATD's. I know Buffalo is to far for you

to travel, but it may be something to bring up to your doctor and ask them

to call and talk to someone at the hospital that does/or has done this. I

see my doctor on Friday up in Buffalo (weather permitting) I will ask her if

she has the names of any of the doctors involved in this, if you would like.

Probably more important than we can imagine. At least at this time in history.

I did submit the RAI lack of informed consent story to 20/20 using the ABC

website. Figured my kid had other fish to fry. But if someone else wants to

send in the Minnesota laws for pets that might add more fuel to the fire.

In fact if a bunch of us submitted the same story line, along with all the

various stories we are getting from docs, well who knows what might happen.

And, the fact that this abomination is not just done in the States might make it

less of a hot potato for the network.

So where are we going to find an environmentally sound place to manufacture our

symbols? Northern Sun comes to mind (not that I'd want to offend any

conservatives out there).

On the other hand we could just start with T shirts. Glow in the dark paint on

shirts could work. We could each manufacture our own. Might be handy to

collect the online names of all of us who have undergone this " sound " procedure

and add them to a list on the back of the shirts. I'm picturing black shirts

rather like the Viet Nam wall. Same statement when you think about it.

Who invented this damn " procedure " anyway? Anybody know?

radioactive museum and the information on who did come up with this might be

would be right! But how to get the word out past our group? And maybe a

" supportive " glow ribbon for those of us who didn't do it, braided up with a

bright...um...green maybe? to symbolize that we've managed our GD with less

medical " overkill " ?

in glow in the dark...in green...I do think that color would do the best. I

believe those little radiation signs that do glow, glow in green.

Hi Pam-

I had RAI at the age of 24 15 years ago. I've had problems ever since but

they weren't considered thyroid related and were attributed to many other

things. After 11 years, we found out that they were thyroid (or lack of

thyroid) related. It wasn't because they didn't try to find out what was

wrong with me. They did try. They just didn't know

I've always griped because the studies suggesting that RAI is safe don't

(and many can't be controlled) control variables. For example, that huge

(35K+ patient) study showing RAI is safe only looks at cancer mortality and

the average age of the patient is 49. That study doesn't apply to me yet

many endos will use something like that to validate what they're doing.

I haven't been able to find a study even close to my circumstances. There

are studies out there that say that RAI doesn't affect fertility but those

are mostly based on patients that try to get pregnant a couple of years

afterwards.

In all honesty, I haven't looked for anything in the past couple of years.

Maybe they have a study out now that's more applicable to someone like me.

I got tired of looking a long time ago.

Anyhow, I don't know your daughter's circumstances, but I know I wouldn't

choose RAI for my son either.
