Hi Pam-

I had RAI at the age of 24 15 years ago. I've had problems ever since but

they weren't considered thyroid related and were attributed to many other

things. After 11 years, we found out that they were thyroid (or lack of

thyroid) related. It wasn't because they didn't try to find out what was

wrong with me. They did try. They just didn't know

I've always griped because the studies suggesting that RAI is safe don't

(and many can't be controlled) control variables. For example, that huge

(35K+ patient) study showing RAI is safe only looks at cancer mortality and

the average age of the patient is 49. That study doesn't apply to me yet

many endos will use something like that to validate what they're doing.

I haven't been able to find a study even close to my circumstances. There

are studies out there that say that RAI doesn't affect fertility but those

are mostly based on patients that try to get pregnant a couple of years

afterwards.

In all honesty, I haven't looked for anything in the past couple of years.

Maybe they have a study out now that's more applicable to someone like me.

I got tired of looking a long time ago.

Anyhow, I don't know your daughter's circumstances, but I know I wouldn't

choose RAI for my son either.

Take care,

Hi Jody-

The pediatric endo at the July NGDF conference mentioned that she uses BRT

on children. She's in Nevada.

Hey Doris,

I like the butterfly a lot. I don't suppose that they emerge without

difficulty. Maybe since we are all trying to remake ourselves and live in

changed bodies a butterfly is a good symbol. And, besides its lovely and

positive.

Maybe when we looked at the butterfly we might remember that the negativity does

pass sometimes.

Re: Re: RAI and pets & HUMANS

Jody,

January is Thyroid Awareness Month....and the color for that is green. (I

think it's the AACE site that has something about Thyroid Awareness Month?)

I actually bought a butterfly pin that is made of polished stone that I wear

as my " thyroid statement " !!

Oh my gosh I'm dense today. I just got the other connection with the butterfly.

" The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland " etc. Maybe if we did atomic

butterflies, ones that glow in the dark.

Re: Re: RAI and pets & HUMANS

Aww come on Doris, you can do it! :)

I'm going to pop up to JoAnn Fabric's this weekend and see what I can find

in glow in the dark...in green...I do think that color would do the best. I

believe those little radiation signs that do glow, glow in green.

Jody,

I agree. Last year the AACE had a campaign about it complete with a media

kit on their site. (I think it was them) This year there was nothing about

it. I've never seen anything on TV about it or heard any PSA's on the radio.

Hi Jody-

I can't remember and I can't find the itinerary. I can't find anything in

this #$% & * office. I've been trying to clean it for 3 years but am always

interupted!

You could try the NGDF site (not bulletin board) and if her name isn't

there, you could ask , Jake or Jan.

Take care,
