Guest guest
Thanks Terry.. yes you have given me a few things to think about. what has interested me the most is the thought of making my own power bar. I will have to do some experimenting. What is the Brewers Yeast for ? And it's funny but I had just recently seen a recipe for an oatmeal-raisin cookie on my Quaker Oats container... but I thought it seemed to have quite a lot of sugar in it. I need to find one that is less sweet. Anyway thanks again. Re: Continuing problems: aspartame > > > Ruthie, > > It seems to me you need to work on getting your protein in more natural > form. Guest guest
Jody, >>Also, a couple of weeks ago I heard a news story but never followed > up on it that the powers that be say beta carotene is bad for you and > instead of preventing some cancers is now the culprit for causing them? > Have you heard this? There was a study several years ago (probably 5 or 6) in Switzerland or the Netherlands or some Scandinavian country -- I can't remember exactly-- that showed that smokers who took beta-carotene supplements had a greater incidence of lung cancer than smokers who didn't take beta-carotene supplements. That study has been controversial, and there are still arguments going on about it. I heard it brought up again on the Today show not too long ago. Who knows....we're always hearing about this study and that, only to later have it all the results debunked! Holly
Guest guest
Please tell me how to make my own! I do have a food processor, and cashew butter sounds wonderful! Holly Re: Continuing problems: aspartame Terry, Thanks again. I should just go buy another food processor and make my own again, it is really easy, just messy to clean up. My favorite is cashew butter. I will give it some thought, in the meantime I will look for a natural one. Jody
Guest guest
The ONLY time I crave sweets -- especially chocolate -- is right before my period. I read something about that once, but I can't remember what they said caused it. Strange, isn't it? And I , too, am a believer in giving in to your cravings. I've read more than once that your body it trying to tell you something when you have a strong craving for something in particular. Holly Re: Continuing problems: aspartame Oh Jody, your post on cravings really hits home! Interesting, do you notice that you get salt cravings typically when you are hypo? I'm curious because I used to like to eat chips and popcorn, not in excess, but I did enjoy them frequently. Shortly before being diagnosed, I noticed that I just didn't have the taste for chips and popcorn any more. If I do have them now, I'll only have a couple and I'm done. It's like the body doesn't want them any more. Which is probably smart of it, since I'm more towards the hyper rather than hypo end of the scale. It just seems weird that the body can do that! Has anyone had a similar experience while hyper? As for the chocolate and sweets...a resounding yes on cravings at that " time of the month " . I won't have had any for a week or so and then all of a sudden I must have chocolate and carb things and almost live on them for a couple of days! I have read that taking chromium will reduce the chocolate cravings, but I haven't tried it myself, because frankly, I rather enjoy the chocolate cravings! And I just got a big box of Malley's chocolates (are you familiar with them Debbie? :-) ) for Christmas and am savoring the experience! I must confess Jody, I prefer to give in to the cravings, too, rather than fight it! I'm weak, I admit!
Guest guest
Hi , I do grave the salt when I am on the hypo side. I was doing really really good for several months, none of those big, marinated with pits, Italian Olives (which is what my favorite salty thing), no chips, no popcorn, used very little salt at the table...then about 3 to 4 weeks after going on PTU those salt cravings have come back full tilt. I still think it may have to do with the thyroid wanting iodine and associates it with salt but mine is iodine free so the cravings continue. Upping my Armour helped some and they went away completely after a weekend of holiday gatherings where regular salt was used (and trust me I *USED* it). Now they are coming back again. Salt cravings have been so bad at times that I have even salted watermelon <hanging head in shame>. The chocolate cravings are very minor and only at cycle time and like I said, 3 m & m's take care of that. Someone told me years ago that if your body is cravings something it is because it needs/requires something in that food and we shouldn't deny it...so I don't, but I do get concerned when feeding the craving and it doesn't go away. I am glad I am not alone in this ;-) Jody _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Terry, If I sent you his name could your husband find how he rates, schooling and such for me? I am a bit leary to go to him though have not ruled it out. And yes, the very low back, a doctor has attributed it to my weight gain. Guest guest
Hi Holly, Thanks for the update on this...the one you heard on the Today Show must be the same report I heard. It is so weird they are saying smokers who have beta-carotene are more susceptible to lung cancer. I can remember many years ago they use to say smokers needed more beta-carotene to prevent it. For every report and study out there saying one thing, there is at least 1 report/study saying the opposite, go figure Jody _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Jody, I can ask him. Give me the name. There is a registry that will probably tell something, but not much. The reason I said back pain is because that's been one of the miracles for me with acupuncture. Had a treatment today, in fact. My hips have ached constantly since the December jobs. Anyway, as long as the acupuncturist uses new, disposable needles and prescribes either whole or powdered herbs, he's probably at least OK. But you might ask where he studied, how long he's been in practice--it's tough to evaluate people, hopefully you'll be lucky and have a good one to help you.
